SHAMROCK NEWS FILE: SHAMROCK wraps up the latest news stories as we reach 28 days until the Cheltenham Festival.

STARTING TODAY: On days when there is no racing in Ireland SHAMROCK will recap the very latest Irish racing news ahead of the Cheltenham Festival:

TODAY:
Don Cossack – quicker the better
Danny Mullins blow
Annie’s back but it ain’t much of a race

  • Gordon Elliott is wanting better ground at Cheltenham in the belief that it will suit his Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup leading contender Don Cossack. Elliott told the Racing & Football Outlook: “He is now as strong as he has ever been and we are all very excited about his chances in the Gold Cup. He will be better on quicker ground, which he is very likely to get, and I couldn’t be happier with him.”
  • Bad news for Danny Mullins who will miss the Cheltenham Festival after it was confirmed he fractured his kneecap in a fall at Newbury on Saturday. Mullins has ridden 28 winners so far this season and said: “Missing Cheltenham is a blow. I hadn’t any guaranteed rides but with Willie going to have a lot of runners I’d have picked up a few.”
  • Further to yesterday’s report, Annie Power has indeed been declared tomorrow for the punchestown.com Mares Hurdle but her presence has, not surprisingly, seen the field decimated and she now has just two rivals – one of whom has been off the track for double the time she has !!! It’s not likely to tell us anything and the only question will be how brave will the BETDAQ layers get pre-race? One betting forecast makes her a 1/80 chance – so, on that basis, any 1.02 going on the machine will be ‘value’ !!!
