THE RACE THAT STOPPED AN ITALIAN: There was a bitter sweet result for Frankie Dettori onboard the Willie Mullins trained Max Dynamite in the Emirates Melbourne Cup overnight.
A massive run from the Willie Mullins trained Max Dynamite who was second to the Michelle Payne ridden outsider Prince Of Penzance in the Melbourne Cup but it came at a price to jockey Frankie Dettori.
Dettori was found guilty of dangerous riding by the Flemington stewards and picked up a one month suspension (which applies around the world) and a fine of AUS$20,000 [£9,326].
Willie Mullins said after the race: “It’s a great story and we had a terrific run. Probably not the luckiest but it’s a horse race and we’re very happy when everything is concerned. This lad can come back again.”
The Aidan O’Brien pair finished well down the field. Bondi Beach (16th) and Kingfisher (19th).
Irish racing resumes at Fairyhouse tomorrow.
