GALWAY NAP: SHAMROCK’S NAP runs at Galway in the 2.55pm race. He is expecting another win for trainer Joseph O’Brien – this time over hurdles.
Joseph O’Brien had a winner on the flat yesterday with Jaqen H’ghar at the Curragh and he should strike again today over the jumps with Aspen Colorado in the novice hurdle at Galway at 2.55.
A winner of two bumpers when trained by Aidan, Aspen Colorado made a winning debut over hurdles at Listowel when beating Sanibel Island by three quarters of a length. The third horse, Golden Poet, was a further seven lengths back and has since run well in a big field at Gowran so the form looks solid enough.
This will be much tougher for Aspen Colorado but he has a touch of class and should account for rivals who are generally more exposed.
The danger looks to be be Mighty Concorde (who has been well backed) returning from running in handicaps to contest this. He has yet to win in 14 starts (finished runner-up in five of them). Rachael Blackmore rides him for the first time today.
