SHAMROCK AT SLIGO: There’s a busy eight race mixed card at Sligo which gets underway at 4.55pm this afternoon.
Eight runners line up for the Kilcawley Construction Sligo Maiden Hurdle at Sligo tonight but it can be very quickly whittled down to three runners with chances.
Runyon Rattler clearly has ability and was the very easy winner of a Kilbeggan bumper but his temperament looked in question here at Sligo last time on his hurdling debut when he almost refused to race and lost loads of ground at the start. I certainly couldn’t be backing him with the possibility that the race might be lost at the start again.
Shadagann has been in good form on the flat – winning a Curragh handicap and finishing second in the Cork Derby. He also ran well when last seen over hurdles at Ballinrobe in May and took second behind Mr Boss Man.
Preference however has to go to Crystal Earth who has the best form on offer and is re-united with Ruby Walsh. The partnership finished second at the Galway Festival to Lily The Lioness and Crystal Earth is overdue her first win over hurdles.
