JUMPING AT BALLINROBE: There’s an evening jumps card at Ballinrobe tonight starting at 5.45. SHAMROCK naps a Jessie Harrington trained jumping debutant in the opener at 5.45.
Two disappointing results at Ballinrobe yesterday and hopefully I can do better at the venue tonight.
At face value Idlewild would have a strong chance in the opening maiden hurdle judged on his debut second on the jumps at Sligo when a 33/1 runner-up to McKinley. He was only overhauled deep inside the final furlong and even after just one start he already looks a better horse over jumps than he was on the flat where he remains a maiden after 10 starts. Worryingly he was found to be ‘clinically abnormal’ when tailed off in a flat race at Sligo when an 11/8 favourite.
I’m not sure I want to be with him tonight and that first run over jumps may have had an element of a fluke about it.
Preference is for the Jessica Harrington trained Rae’s Creek who justified favouritism in good style at Ballinrobe (1m 5f) when last seen out and earlier in his career had the distinction of finishing second to subsequent Irish Oaks runner-up and dual Group 3 winner Venus de Milo in a maiden at Fairyhouse !
That all adds up to very solid form in the context of this race and there must be every chance that Rae’s Creek can make a winning start over timber.
There is little to choose between him and Elishpour in the early BETDAQ market. Elishpur was pitched in far too deeply on his hurdling debut at Fairyhouse in a Grade 2 but showed up well at Killarney last time out when third to Indian Icon. He is unproven on ground good or faster however.
