Sir Michael Stoute made a positive start to the new season with Arab Spring winning at the track yesterday and the Newmarket handler saddles two here – jockey bookings don’t us everything here however. Tall Ship is ridden by Ryan Moore but debutant Abseil is partnered by James Doyle who is Prince Khalid Abdullah’s retained rider. Bustopher sets a fair standard for both to aim at. He has achieved most so far by finishing runner-up at Newmarket in the Wood Ditton and then at occupying the same berth at Meydan.
3:20 Betdaq £/€500 In Free Bets Handicap (4yo+, Class 5, 7f, 9 runners)
This looks wide open although the BETDAQ layers are not wanting to take too many chances on the Stuart Williams trained favourite Welsh Sunrise who is trading around 3.1. She is in great heart and doesn’t look to have been punished too harshly by the handicapper, possibly because of the small margins she has won by recently. However, she was just a nose away from winning off a mark of 74 (75 today) in a better class race at Lingfield last time out and can get back on the winning trail here.
3:50 Betdaq No Premium Charge Maiden Stakes (3yo+, Class 5, 1m 4f, 6 runners)
This should be one for Sir Michael Stoute with Economy who was a good second on debut to Buchanan at Lingfield and at BETDAQ odds of around 1.43 today should reward the short price players in what looks a very modest event.
4:20 Betdaq – The Sports Betting Exchange Handicap (4yo+, Class 4, 1m 4f, 6 runners)
We’re down to just six runners but it looks decidedly tricky. The penny seems to have dropped with Swift Blade who is chasing a four-timer but only scrambled home last time out to beat Sporting Gold by a short head. However, the runner-up has sound claims of reversing that form today with a 2lb swing in the weights.
