SHAMROCK AT SLIGO: Irish racing from Sligo on Tuesday with an eight race card getting underway at 4.50.
It’s a mixed card at Sligo tonight which concludes with three jumps races.
The opening maiden looks very modest and Newton Bomb probably doesn’t need to do much more than reproduce her effort from last time when a course and distance close second. It’s hard to make her a bet though as there is the very real possibility of a big improver lurking and Dermot Weld has two in the race including a debutant.
The two divisions of the seven furlong handicap look impossible so I will look to the ten furlong maiden at 6.20pm for my best bet on the card.
The BETDAQ market has Corona Borealis as quite a warm favourite for this at around 2.54 but she was a well beaten second over this trip at the last meeting here and is beginning to look a little exposed.
A more interesting prospect is the Dermot Weld trained Next Bend who was very green on debut at Fairyhouse and indeed looked a future jumper as he jumped a couple of paths mid-race ! He was then stepped up to this trip at Navan last time out and shaped much better in finishing fourth to The Big Cat.
Jim Bolger’s Ring Chief was beaten a fair way into third on his debut at Galway but I am not convinced that the step back in trip will be to his liking.
