ROYAL ASCOT DAY ONE: SHAMROCK previews the Irish challenge on day one of Royal Ascot.
Day one of what promises to be a very different Royal Ascot.
At least the racing remains consistent at a high level and Aidan O’Brien sends a six-strong raiding party to Berkshire on day one including Circus Maximus in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes but his strongest chance looks to lie with Mogul in the King Edward VII Stakes at 3.00.
Rated 110, and a brother to Japan, Mogul raced four times as two-year-old and finished fourth to this year’s Guineas winner Kameko in the rescheduled Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes at Newcastle.
That looks the strongest form on offer and Mogul should be able to see off the home challenge of the unbeaten Mohican Heights who looked good when winning a Salisbury Listed race but this is a whole new ball game.
Aidan also runs Arthur’s Kingdom here – part of a very strong opening day book of rides for Frankie Dettori – this one should be suited by the recent rain that has fallen and has a good chance of making it a 1-2 for the stable – hopefully behind Mogul from my point of view.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Mogul (3.00 Royal Ascot)
2020 NAPS: 29/63 +96.49 (to a 10 unit daily level stake)
