WELD AND SMULLEN’S VIGIL: Dermot Weld’s Vigil is all set for a repeat attempt in the Weatherbys Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival.
Pat Smullen is again set to ride Vigil for Dermot Weld in the Champion Bumper at next month’s Cheltenham Festival.
Vigil finished fifth in the race last year behind lesser fancied stable companion Silver Concorde.
He has only raced once since, winning a flat race at Leopardstown.
Weld told the Irish Times: “I think it has to be an advantage for Vigil to have run in the race before although it looks an exceptional renewal this year. It’s wide-open but I think our horse is capable of running a good race in it and Pat Smullen will ride.”
Meanwhile, Gerdago in is set to run in graded company at Fairyhouse’s three-day Easter meeting.
Trainer Ken Condon was delighted with Gerdago’s third to Dedigout in the Boyne Hurdle at Navan on Sunday and said: “He has come out of the race well, he has ate up well and is sound. Going into the race he was a long way off what was required in terms of ratings.”
Racing resumes in Ireland at Punchestown on Wednesday.
