ANTI CLIMAX: Shamrock’s NAP yesterday was a non runner in the final race. He heads to Dundalk’s evening card on Wednesday.
For once, the Dundalk card hasn’t attracted big fields. In fact there’s an average of 6.5 runners per race across the seven race card.
The opener is interesting in as much as we’ll get a loose guide as to the value of this season’s curtain raising Tally Ho Stakes at the Curragh. It was the race won last year by Dawn Approach and his trainer Jim Bolger again saddled the winner this season with Saburo.
Topman Dandy the (well beaten) fifth that day reappears in the opener at Dundalk and against three unraced rivals should be able to put his race experience to good use. Although trying to compare soft to heavy ground at the Curragh with how he will handle the Polytrack at Dundalk is anyones guess.
Master Speaker is another to run at the Curragh racing here tonight. He was only beaten a head on debut and will start at prohibitive odds in the 6.50 to go one better for Team O’Brien.
The 7.20 is full of if’s and but’s and it might pay to row in with Poly Pomona who is only modest but handles the track well and this race might not take that much winning.
Amongst her primary market rivals, Attire didn’t seem to build on an encouraging debut here and Iveta was only sixth in a maiden here last time.
Poly Pomona has a recent start to her name too unlike Attire and Iveta.
