WINNING BY A NECK: SHAMROCK naps in the final race at Fairyhouse on Wednesday on the Willie Mullins trained Some Neck.
Irish racing is back on Wednesday and my best bet runs in the concluding bumper at 3.55pm.
Some Neck has been costly to follow so far with defeats at 7/4, 4/5, 11/10 and 2/1 on his four run CV but he might be worth one more chance in this company now that he is taking a step up in trip.
He has contested much better races than this and despite the defeats has generally run with credit each time. He was only beaten half a length by Miracle Of Medinah here in March and also shaped well last time out when fourth to No Comment in a big field Punchestown bumper over 2m 2f, noted making late progress in the race.
Gordon Elliott’s Champagne Classic is an obvious danger after his debut second at Galway. He was however well beaten by Joey Sasa and didn’t obviously give the impression that the extra half mile will suit – and it will be even more of a stamina trip given the ground today is softer than it was at Galway.
