TRAMORE GO AHEAD: This afternoon’s meeting at Tramore will go ahead after the track passed an inspection.
Happy New Year.
Both cards go ahead today to start the New Year off in Ireland.
Tramore needed to pass an inspection.
Officials called an 8.30am check due to an unfavourable weather forecast for the area, but the course has been declared fit to race.
The Listed Holden Plant Rentals Chase is the highlight of the planned seven-race card which will be run on heavy ground.
At Fairyhouse the ground is (very marginally!) better. The course tweeted: “Currently dry, soft to heavy, heavy in places with heavy rain forecast this morning.”
Lieutenant Colonel’s ability to handle the testing ground has to be taken a little on trust but there is little doubt he brings by far the best form into the opening race. He made a winning debut in a bumper at Punchestown on yielding ground before making an excellent debut over hurdles when second to the Willie Mullins trained odds-on favourite Vautour in a big field at Navan.
It’s another big field today but a race that’s lacking strength in depth.
