PLATE DAY AT GALWAY: SHAMROCK looks at day three of the Galway Festival including the 22 runner Galway Plate at 5.30. For the second day running yesterday his lay on a favourite finished out of the frame.
A good lay yesterday with Domination who was out of the frame at 7/4.
We also got a nice place with Six Silver Lane (4th 11/1) but the NAP Rich Coast could only finish third.
Back to Galway on Wednesday for Plate Day and it’s an eight race card.
3:00 100,000 Tote Pick6 Guarantee Maiden Hurdle (5yo+, 2m, 13 runners)
Dermot Weld should start day three with a flyer through his debutant Tandem. He was classy on the flat and finished third to The United States in a Group 3 race at Leopardstown in September. Of his rivals, all of which have experience over jumps the Willie Mullins trained Most Peculiar looks the biggest threat.
3:35 Download The Tote Mobile App E.B.F. Mares Handicap Hurdle (4yo+, 2m, 18 runners)
Lilly The Lioness comes here in great form having romped to a 13 length success last time out over fences at Tipperary. She can go well back over the smaller obstacles despite racing from outside the handicap. She is recommended win and place on BETDAQ.
4:10 40,000 Tote Jackpot Guarantee Handicap Hurdle (81-123) (4yo+, 2m 4f, 22 runners)
The Tony Martin trained Greatness looks interesting towards the bottom of the weights. He won a Kilbeggan handicap hurdle when last seen out and has scope for further improvement. A tough race though.
4:45 Grab A Grand With Tote (Q.R.) Maiden (3yo+, 1m 4f, 8 runners)
I’ve done well with the lays so far this week but this is the most daring. Whitey O’ Gwaun trained by Dermot Weld is the hot favourite but he was so disappointing at the Curragh last time out that I think there are questions to be asked. The extra trip should help but Little King Robin looks a big threat.
5:30 thetote.com Galway Plate (Grade A Handicap Chase) (4yo+, 2m 6f, 25 runners)
A P McCoy has a good record in the Plate winning two of the last four renewals and looks to have a solid chance again with Alderwood who has plenty of class and has been rested with this in mind. I prefer the chances of the Noel Meade trained Road To Riches who finished an excellent second to Operating in a Grade A handicap chase at Punchestown last time out and finally looks to be getting his act together over fences.
6:05 Tote Trifecta Rollover Handicap (50-70) (4yo+, 1m 100y, 21 runners)
Longfield Lad was an eye-catching fourth last time out at Cork and is recommended as a place bet here.
6:40 Bet Online At thetote.com Handicap (3yo, 1m 100y, 11 runners)
Sarafiyla has the least experience but surely the most potential. There was plenty to like about her maiden win at Leopardstown and she doesn’t look to have been too harshly treated on handicap debut.
7:10 Tote Return All Profits To Irish Racing Maiden (3yo+, 1m 100y, 8 runners)
Weld has won this 14 times from 18. Incredible stats, so look no further than debutant Brooch to continue the monopoly.
