SHAMROCK PREVIEWS GALWAY PLATE DAY: The big race of the week is due off at 6.15pm on Wednesday.
The Tote Galway Plate is very much the highlight of the eight race card at Galway tonight as the action switches to jumps.
Original favourite The Shunter has been weak so far on the BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE and there’s no guarantee he will even go off market leader come post time.
The Emmet Mullins trained runner was in terrific form last season and hasn’t been seen since finishing a close up third to Koshari (runs again here) at the Punchestown Festival over hurdles. The drift might be put down to two things – (a) ideally he would prefer some give in the ground and (b) perhaps he just got too short for what, after all, is one of the most competitive races on the calendar.
The recent stats on the race make interesting reading:
It would be no surprise to see one pop up at a price – and that could well be a JP owned one given he owns five including The Shunter.
I thought the Joseph O’Brien trained Top Moon was interesting.
He held another of today’s rivals Somptueux when winning earlier in the month at Wexford and can confirm that form over the longer trip and take the step up in class in his stride.
