GALWAY PLATE DAY: SHAMROCK looks ahead to the competitive Galway Plate – the jumps highlight of the week at Ballybrit.

It’s testimony to how far Galway has come, quality wise, that Cheltenham Festival winner Tully East is 10th on the racecard for today’s Galway Plate. In other words there are nine horses officially BETTER than him !!

The quality seems to go up every year and this year’s renewal looks as competitive as ever. Two reserve runners have crept into the race Patrick’s Park and The West’s Awake and this could be ominous for the rest of the field.

I think the Willie Mullins trained Patricks Park has a real strong chance off just 10-7 here.

He’s been given a break after his win in the valuable Guinness Handicap Chase at the Punchestown Festival and despite the rise in the weights he might well be able to overcome the hike given how progressive he is.

He’s a qualifier under the stats DAQMAN highlighted in his column today (seven-year-old and low weight) and is taken to give Willie Mullins his first win in the race since Blazing Tempo in 2011.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Patrick’s Park (7.20 Galway)
