THIRD TIME LUCKY FOR MONARCH: SHAMROCK is napping the Aidan O’Brien trained Monarch in the opener on tonight’s Gowran Park card.
Hopefully it will be a case of third time lucky for the three-year-old Monarch in the opener at Gowran Park tonight.
Aidan O’Brien’s runner was a beaten odds-on favourite on debut at Limerick and could only finished third to Maneen. The winner has won subsequently at Wetherby so the form looks pretty solid.
Monarch looked desperately unlucky at Killarney last time out when beaten a short head despite meeting considerable trouble in running on two occasions.
That should make him a ‘winner without a penalty’ and he couldn’t have fared better in the draw department – he comes out of box one.
There’s a raft of likely improvers in the race and two unfancied debutants.
Of those who have run, Heartful has probably done best. She was a fair fourth at Navan last time out.
