EVENING ACTION FROM GOWRAN PARK: SHAMROCK has one bet tonight on the Gowran Park card which gets underway at 4.25pm on expected good to firm ground.
Trusting official ratings at claiming level can be the quick route to the poor house but there are plenty of other reasons why Bainne looks a good thing in the opener at Gowran Park tonight.
The Michael O’Callaghan trained mare arrives here in pretty good form. Her effort two starts ago when fourth in a Galway handicap was particularly encouraging and the last time she ran in claiming company she romped to a four and a quarter length success over My Painter who has since won.
She does have plenty in hand on the official figures. I wondered whether the ground might be plenty quick for her but she has handled good ground well in the past and to date has done most of her running on either ground with give in it, or on the all-weather when trained in England.
The Jim Bolger trained Elusive Approach looks the danger. Interesting to see her out again so soon after finishing seventh at Roscommon on Monday.
