KILLARNEY ON WEDNESDAY: SHAMROCK is back at Killarney on Wednesday looking at another mixed card which gets underway at 5.40.

I got it wrong yesterday. The lay won. Something to do with my punting mentality which makes that scenario always feel a lot worse than a win bet losing.

Back to Killarney on Wednesday for their meeting which gets underway with the John Buckley Auctioneers Maiden at 5.40.

Not surprising for a race over 1m 6f, this has attracted plenty of interest from those who have been busy over the jumps including Desertmore Stream who won a competitive handicap hurdle at Punchestown last time out.

It also sees the reappearance of Orpheus Valley who made all the running to win the valuable Guinness Handicap Chase at Punchestown.

The favourite is Aidan O’Brien’s Tigris River who finished fourth to Fascinating Rock over 1m 2f at Leopardstown last time out and is stepping up in distance for this race.

At face value his odds are ludicrously short and owe a lot to the fact that O’Brien has completely dominated this race with five of the previous six winners. He should be suited by the step up in trip but makes no appeal as a bet at around 1.7.

In the 6.10 I thought the John Oxx trained Tarziyna looked of interest.

She won her maiden easily at Sligo and than ran well on handicap debut at Leopardstown taking third to Spring Focus suggesting that she can win off her current mark and indeed has been dropped 1lb since that race.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Tarziyna (6.10 Leopardstown)
