18 ENTRIES FOR THE CHAMPION HURDLE: Reigning champion Hurricane Fly is one of just 18 entries announced today for the Champion Hurdle on Tuesday March 11.
Willie Mullins has made four entries for the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival including the current champion Hurricane Fly.
As well as Hurricane Fly, Mullins has also entered Annie Power, Un Des Sceaux and Thousand Stars.
There was general surprise at the relatively low number of entries announced today.
18 represents the lowest number of entries for the race in recent times – last year there were 34 and the previous lowest total was 24 in 1995.
Hurricane Fly will bid to become the sixth three-time winner of hurdling’s top race and the first since Istabraq, who triumphed for Aidan O’Brien in 1998, 1999 and 2000 and the first not in successive years.
