NAPS HAT-TRICK BID: SHAMROCK bids for a hat-trick of winning NAPS on Wednesday following on from URBAN BEAT WON 9/4 on Monday and KLASSICAL DREAM WON 8/13 yesterday.
Klassical Dream ran out the impressive winner of the Herald Champion Novice Hurdle at Punchestown on Tuesday and fingers crossed for a hat-trick of naps today after Urban Beat kicked off the sequence by winning at 9/4 on Monday.
Plenty of rain about on day one of the Festival yesterday and it’s expected to ride yielding today for another superb card featuring the Coral Punchestown Gold Cup – one of three consecutive Grade 1 races.
5:30 Irish Daily Mirror Novice Hurdle (Grade 1)
Mullins and Elliott have won the last four runnings of this between them but this looks an open renewal. Minella Indo looks the one most likely to break the Mullins/Elliott domination. Trained by Henry de Bromhead, Minella Indo caused a 50/1 shock when winning the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival under today’s pilot Rachael Blackmore and I see no reasons why the partnership shouldn’t again account for Commander Of Fleet (2nd) and Allaho (3rd).
6:05 Coral Punchestown Gold Cup (Grade 1)
The feature sees another Cheltenham hero attempt to follow-up. This time Al Boum Photo who was very impressive when winning the Gold Cup 47 days ago. He’s closely matched on ratings with Kemboy who unseated at the first at Cheltenham but then was very impressive when winning the Grade 1 Bowl at Aintree. The pair are hard to split but I just come down in favour of Al Boum Photo.
6:40 Racing Post App Champion I.N.H. Flat Race For The Conyngham Cup (Grade 1)
Again, another race that has gone exclusively to Willie Mullins (4) and Gordon Elliott (1) in the last five seasons. There are a couple of English raiders here but it’s hard to get away from the chances of the Elliott trained Abacadabras who was fourth in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham and that makes him the form pick.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: MINELLA INDO (5.30 Punchestown)
NEXT BEST: AL BOUM PHOTO (6.05 Punchestown)
TREBLE: ABACADABRAS (6.40 Punchestown)
