SHAMROCK HEADS TO SLIGO ON WEDNESDAY: His NAP runs in the 7.40 race on the evening card where the going is good, yielding in places.
At first glance Zafarqan doesn’t look one to back at too short a price in the apprentice maiden at Sligo tonight but with a good rider onboard Zafarqan should be able to get off the mark at the ninth attempt.
He is officially rated the best horse in a race which shouldn’t take much winning.
Certainly a repeition of his Fairyhouse second to Kingdom over this 1m 4f trip should easily be good enough to bring about his first win.
He also ran well at Leopardstown last time out when third over 1m 6f and have the impression that day that the drop back to 1m 4f again was needed.
Dangers would include the Jim Bolger trained Miss Ekaterina but she was beaten a fair way when third to Gowran Park last time out. Last week’s Galway third Benash is also a danger but the ground won’t be as testing as it was at Galway.
