SHAMROCK’S SUPER SUNDAY: A 9/1 and 5/2 winner from only four bets on Sunday. There’s a good jumps card at Killarney tonight and our man goes in search of further winners.
That wasn’t a bad Sunday haul !!!
Particularly pleased with Pivot Bridge 9/1 WINNER of the Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle at Killarney. We found the winner thanks to the stats that highlighted a STRONG case for a young low weight and Pivot Bridge was identified as the form pick. STATS + FORM = GREAT TEAMWORK.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Mustajeeb was a very impressive winner of the Amethyst Stakes at Leopardstown. Winning trainer Dermot Weld is in a rich vein of form and said after the race: “I’ll speak to Sheikh Hamdan (Al Maktoum, owner) and Angus Gold (racing manager), but I would encourage them towards the Irish 2,000 Guineas.”
I napped the wrong one with Stars So Bright who was hugely disappointing, even allowing for some trouble in running. And there was plenty of trouble in running too in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial with favourite Fascinating Rock awarded the race after first-past-the-post Ebanoran was demoted to second by the stewards. Geoffrey Chaucer also got caught up in the interference but I’m certainly not convinced he was an unlucky loser.
Back to Killarney today and another stats inspired selection.
In the 7.10, the McSweeney Arms Hotel Killarney National Handicap Chase, seven out of 10 winners of this carried 10st 4lb or less, and five of them less than 10st. Miss Pepperpot won it for Francis Flood last year and has bottom weight tonight. She is now 6lb lower but has been woefully out of form since her win in this and has been well beaten in seven subsequent races. She had shown she was in form last year with a good run prior to this at Punchestown.
Coldstonesober ticks the right box in terms of the weight category (10st) and although an infrequent winner can run into a place with a clear round. His jumping isn’t always perfect which is a concern but he warmed up nicely for this at Down Royal last time out finishing just a head second to Shabra Charity.
In the opener at 5.05 Martello Tower looks to have a touch of class having finished fourth in a Listed hurdle for novices at Naas and should be able to make easy work of this much simpler assignment.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Martello Tower (5.05 Killarney)
WIN AND PLACE: Coldstonesober (7.10 Killarney)
