I am just so glad that last week’s bets were all to small stakes as I failed to make anything out of them by the time the final whistle blew, but I did get out of two of my three football bets well in front as things so very nearly went my way! Sunday was, in my humble opinion, just about the most exciting games of football I have ever seen with the balance swinging to and fro for which side of Manchester won the title, and who got relegated – though I doubt I would have felt the same if I supported any of the teams involved?

Having backed Queens Park Rangers on BETDAQ and managing to get a small bet on at 20.4 I expected the humiliation the red top press suggested as Manchester City went 1-0 up and the writing was on the wall as far as we were all concerned. Even an equaliser failed to affect the price sufficiently for me to get out at a profit and things only got worse when Joey Barton was sent off leaving me mentally writing off my win bet.

Luckily for me, the game had me glued to the television while watching the other scores on my I-pad (though to be fair, the TV were more on the ball than any website), and to my shock, QPR actually went 1-2 up with less than half an hour left on the clock, and I managed to get out then for a small but welcome profit which turned in to the right decision as we all know by now!

Fulham were never in it against Spurs so I got that one badly wrong, and I failed to get out when Bolton were winning at Stoke but that was more down to greed than anything else as the BETDAQ price was more than good enough when they were 1-2 up.

Going against the habit of a lifetime, I just could not resist backing my beloved Everton when I saw some 2.6 available on BETDAQ early Saturday morning – Yes I know Newcastle are riding high but the Toffees have been on fire of late and I got one right over the weekend with a comfortable victory, though to be fair I did get out at 2-0 up (why take risks), cutting my profits but also minimising my losses.

Looking ahead, it feels like someone has cut off one of my limbs, what am I supposed to do until the next football season starts in August? The answer (for now) has to be the play offs, and we have a cracker in prospect as Blackpool and West Ham United both look to take the remaining place in the premiership with all its inherent riches.

At the risk of being laughed out of town, have always had a soft spot for Ian Holloway who has surely proved just how good a manager he really is – even if he is a little eccentric sometimes? When he took Blackpool up before it was considered little more than a fluke, yet after losing his best players following relegation here he is again looking to bounce back to the upper echelons. The layers naturally (and perhaps correctly) make West Ham the favourites but I just get the feeling that Sam Allardyce is less likely to relax his players, which could cause nerves on the day, and at odds of 3.9 with BETDAQ, I cannot resist a point at least.

Of course, as you would have second-guessed, my other football bet is on Chelsea to beat Bayern Munich (4.8 with BETDAQ) in their own back yard in the Champions League final. Quite frankly, I am no fan of Chelsea but they seem to treat such occasions with distain and after the Germans were soundly thrashed last time out, the odds are very much in our favour and I cannot see why they are such outsiders? They have the players and love the fact that most neutrals want them to lose making the price that bit too good to let go in the circumstances.

With football in such short supply I plan to have a little bet or two out here in Singapore on the horses, though trying to balance out international form is always more of a lottery so I will stick with a small each way bet on Zazou who should be a massive price and looks to have a chance based on His Hong Kong exploits. The sprint is beyond me (and most people), leaving me with Newbury this weekend where I hope to watch Frankel return on the TV while over here. He will not be backable (sure to be massively odds), but so what, a star like him is a once in a lifetime experience for us punters, and I can only hope he is the same horse this year and plunders all the top prizes.

Lastly, but not leastly, I have had a call from my golf mad mate imploring me to get on Brian Gay each way in the Byron Nelson Classic in the USA. Currently available at 48.0 to win and 10.0 to gain a top five finish, those odds are apparently over the top (like I have a clue?), and well worth backing to smallish stakes.

This week’s suggested bets (odds correct at the time of writing):

Football:
1pt Win BLACKPOOL to beat West Ham at Wembley Saturday at BETDAQ odds of 3.9
1pt Win CHELSEA to beat Bayern Munich (Champions League Final) at BETDAQ odds of 4.8

Horse Racing:
Half point each way ZAZOU Singapore Airlines International, Kranji, Singapore, Sunday

Golf:
Half point each way BRIAN GAY Byron Nelson Classic at 48.0 to win and 10.0 to gain a top five finish with BETDAQ.
