THE BETDAQ PUNTER is back – and as usual looks back on his betting diary last week on BETDAQ.

Not the best of weeks and he isn’t happy with Chelsea in particular.

This week his attention turns to bets on football, basketball and racing.

He includes bets on BETDAQ MULTIPLES.

Friday

Maybe it’s old age or maybe something else but I have decided I need to be a bit more adventurous with some (not all) of my bets with a wide world of sport home and abroad that I need to get a handle on and go looking for some value which is the name of this game. Friday, I went looking at the football and started in the afternoon with a bet on the Gulf Cup of Nations when United Arab Emirates looked the proverbial good thing to beat Oman and so it proved. A professional set up and coaches of the standard of (love him or hate him) Maradonna have made sure the game is going in the right direction in Dubai at least, and odds of 2.60 on BETDAQ for the home team were a steal and then some. I did have to wait for the goals to make my winnings safe but I have read that they dominated the game so thank you BETDAQ layers. Naturally (or is the word greedily?), I lumped pretty much all my winnings on the equally obvious fact that PSG would beat Ajaccio at odds of 1.15 only for a 0-0 draw to rain on my fireworks (and that is the polite version) despite 16 attempts on goal and 11 corners – give me strength!

Saturday

The biggest and best betting day of the week saw my limited football bets let me down but with minimised damage – I sort of saw it coming and made sure we kept most of our recent winnings! Horses needed flippers so once again I felt a bit brave and had a few small punts on the rugby for a change. If in doubt follow the favourite seems to be my 2013 mantra so I started hammering away on the old tablet putting a long list of bets together on my BETDAQ account and hoping for the best. Even I could not include Harlequin at odds of 1.03 as that is just plain stupid (yes they won but I can afford to let that go!), a remark that also applied to Toulon at the same price! Biarritz (1.18 Won), Racing Metro (1.80 lost), Cammi Calvisano (1.44 Won), Grenoble (1.61 Won), were all I could find at half sensible odds and at least three winners out of four helped to boost the BETDAQ account for the week ahead.

Sunday

Another quiet day so I switched to a bit of snooker for a change. To be fair I don’t have a clue (I play a bit of pool but it’s not the same thing), but I have friends at On Q Promotions and keep an eye out for their players, though not necessarily backed with my personal cash! The Masters are televised so there is plenty to bet on though frame scores are in to the realms of fantasy as far as I am concerned and straight win bets seem the sensible route. As the On Q players always wear a pink waistcoat (it’s to show support for a cancer charity I believe, and they are apparently known as the Pink Army), so at least they are easy to spot – though that doesn’t mean I am naïve enough to back them in every match! As Mark Allen and Mark Davis are BOTH “in the pink” (so to speak), and had to play each other I backed the favourite at 1.6 (Mr Allen) and sat back to watch with a beer in hand. The 6-2 scoreline was irrelevant (all I cared about was I won), but the snooker was certainly interesting enough though I admit the punt was the reason I sat glued from beginning to end.

Monday

No soccer I cared about, ditto the rugby and even the snooker, so back to the horses was my only realistic avenue as I looked to recoup American Football losses from Sunday night (one win away from another accumulator). I am convinced there is a half decent race in Asker who is now with Gary Moore, but I am really glad I had the sense to back him win and place as he strolled in to second place at a starting price of 5/1. I took 6.6 the win on BETDAQ (so what, I hear you cry), but more importantly 2.6 the place, so I actually walked away with a small but worthwhile profit.

Tuesday

I don’t know much about football but I do see a club on the slippery slope in Birmingham and the 3.4 available on BETDAQ for Leeds to knock them out of the FA Cup was too tempting to ignore. Naturally I included them in a treble with Wigan (2.5) and Sunderland (1.8) only to see the shortest priced selection stop a tasty little 15.3 return – lesson is never rely on reputations when placing your bets!

Wednesday

With the horse racing still more about swimming than jumping I settled for more football bets and a little snooker with mixed results. Arsenal (1.46) and Manchester United (1.33) landed a double but Chelsea (1.2) continued their appalling home form and ruined a couple of other doubles and a treble – why is it always the shortest price that lets you down I wonder? Luckily for me the old double whammy on the favourites paid off on the snooker with Mark Williams (1.65) and Mark Selby (1.5) both winning (all be it only just), and landing my single bets to top up the old BETDAQ account.

Thursday

Snooker again with Mark Allen representing my mate at On Q but up against Masters Champion Neil Robertson so where do I place my bets? The betting suggested the Aussie was the likely winner so I risked a small bet on the Pink Army and only came unstuck after a deciding frame. As a tight wad I had got out by then at a profit (my nerves couldn’t take it!), backing the “loser” at 2.4 on BETDAQ and laying him off at 1.99 when the nerves went to shreds.

Conclusions:

Bet of the week – An odds on double on the snooker – one of those weeks I suppose!

Disaster of the week – getting out of bed! Three out of four on the American football (and one beaten in overtime), and one out of three in each football bet meant I have to put my hands up to a bad day at the office.

Something for the weekend:
Enough of the past and more toward the future as we look to the weekend and a chance to get back on the winning trail. In an attempt at stepping out of my comfort zone I thought a small bet on Basketball would be out of the blue so how about a small treble on the favourites in the NBA this weekend? Friday night/Saturday morning we see Orlando Magic play Charlotte Bobcats at BETDAQ odds of 1.4, and I think they are the proverbial good thing but who do we add to make up a sensible bet worth having? The Brooklyn Nets have a decent enough name so even at 1.55 I will add them to the mix to see off Atlanta Hawks with Utah Jazz to see off the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday at BETDAQ odds of 1.3 the final piece of my NBA jigsaw!

Soccer is never far from my thoughts even if I have found some results frustrating of late but that will never stop me going in for more punishment. There are plenty of close ones to call (on paper at least), so I will give them a swerve and look for short prices in another treble (what a coward!). Much as I choke at the thought of tipping Liverpool they did look as if it was starting to come together against Manchester United and they should be too strong at home for Norwich though 1.35 is hardly a generous BETDAQ offer so do see if you can beat it. Manchester City cannot afford any more upset so will need to beat Fulham and do it with ease and at 1.33 ought to do so, while the one I hope will build up the returns is Hull who ought to be a lot too good for Peterborough at BETDAQ odds of 2.3 despite giving away home advantage.

Lastly for this week, the horse racing is all a bit on and off in this weather but if they do go ahead then a small bet at Lingfield is on the cards.

Avoiding burger jokes unlike most people, I will have a point on Flying Tempo for the Ed Dunlop yard in the lucky last at Lingfield, due off at 4.15pm. The three year old looked like a different horse when running on after a slow start for a pretty comfortable handicap success at Wolverhampton last time out and the extra furlong this afternoon looks tailor made.

He has gone up five pounds for that win but I can’t see that stopping him if he turns out here in the same frame of mind, and I can’t see our bet being too far away.

This week’s suggested bets (all prices with BETDAQ and correct at the time of writing):

Weekend Football
1pt Win treble:
Liverpool (1.35) Manchester City (1.3), and Hull (2.3) for a possible 4.03 return.

NBA Basketball
1pt Win treble:
Orlando Magic to beat Charlotte Bobcats (1.4), Brooklyn Nets to beat Atlanta Hawks (1.55), and Utah Jazz to beat Cleveland Cavaliers (1.3).

Horse racing:
1pt Win FLYING TEMPO 4.15pm Lingfield Saturday
