THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Friday’s Big Bash League match between Sydney Thunder v Adelaide Strikers with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We have our first double header at the Big Bash on Friday morning on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. Melbourne Stars clash with Hobart Hurricanes in the early game, but I’m happy to focus on Sydney Thunder v Adelaide Strikers in the second game. Both these sides got off to winning starts earlier in the week, and we should have a cracking game here. Sydney Thunder started us off with a bang as they won off the final ball in the opening game on Tuesday morning! Given this tournament needs some drama and big crowds, I don’t think we could have started better.

There has been some negative feedback about the tournament already on the likes of Twitter, and we’ll just have to wait and see how the attendance figures go this season. I think the reality is that Cricket Australia have probably made the tournament too big fixture wise, but that’s where the TV money is. Adelaide Strikers were exceptionally impressive in their opening game winning by 51 runs on Wednesday – they had home advantage there and now have to move out of their comfort zone.

For the time being, both these sides have a very strong XI. That will likely change when the South African T20 league starts in January, and Adelaide Strikers will definitely lose one of their stars as Rashid Khan is a captain of one of the new franchises. The Strikers usually rely on their good bowling to bring them through, and without their star player they could struggle later in the tournament. You can say the same about the Thunder batting line-up too though! An interesting game awaits.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We’re at the Sydney Showground Stadium this time around, we’re a little in the dark heading into this game because we didn’t have a Big Bash game here last season. It’s just the way things worked out – usually we have a few games here. In the 2019/20 season, the first inning scores here were 142/7 (chased), 119/4 (8 over game, won), 162/6 (chased), 76 all out (chased on Duckworth Lewis in 5.3 overs) and 99/4 (chased on Duckworth Lewis). It’s obviously been a while since those games, and we did get a lot of bad weather too that season. I would go into this game with an open mind, but you’d probably have to bowl first looking at the data.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I like the look of both squads here – especially with all their stars playing at the moment. We should get a good wicket here, and that will help Adelaide Strikers given their batting isn’t as strong as their bowling. They couldn’t have started the tournament any better earlier in the week, and they are worth backing here at 2.02. Obviously there isn’t much between the sides in the betting, but I was surprised to see them trading “outsiders” given we’re likely to see good batting conditions. At the same time, I’m happy to keep stakes small here – this should be a high quality game.

The Edge Says:
One point win Adelaide Strikers to beat Sydney Thunder at 2.02 with Betdaq Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

With no Big Bash cricket here last season, I would go into this game with an open mind. It’s a drop in wicket, so while it has played well in the past we might not see the same conditions. Give yourself at least three to four overs to see what the wicket is playing like. The Thunder bowling went very well in their opening game, but on paper the Strikers are much stronger in that department. Instead of taking on the Thunder bowling, I feel the best in-running option is to support the Strikers bowling when they get a chance. I’d probably favour the side chasing here too, but let’s wait and see conditions.
