THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Thursday’s Big Bash League match between Brisbane Heat v Melbourne Renegades with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

Brisbane Heat v Melbourne Renegades

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The Big Bash continues on BETDAQ Betting Exchange Thursday morning, after a dramatic last ball thriller to start the tournament earlier in the week! We have two sides looking to turn things around here as Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Renegades start a new season after taking up the final two spots last season. Both only recorded three wins from their 14 games last season, and they were ten points adrift from the other sides. At least Brisbane Heat got into the Playoffs in the 2020/21 season, but Melbourne Renegades finished bottom of the table, again adrift, that season too! Since winning the tournament in 2018/19, the renegades have finished bottom three seasons in a row.

With a run like that, there’s obviously going to be changes somewhere! They have tried their best with recruitment but they still have a number of issues. For example, Laim Livingstone was in the squad but misses the tournament. They will lose Andre Russell to another T20 tournament along with Akeal Hosein. When they lose them, we could see serious issues again. After finishing bottom three seasons in a row, maybe finishing mid-table while not quite reaching the playoffs isn’t a bad showing.

For Brisbane Heat, similar thoughts apply. They were poor last season, and have actually done worst with getting new players. Maybe it’s a change in tactic because they used nearly 30 different players last season. Their best player will likely be Colin Munro looking at their squad, but they lose him to the UAE league in early January. It could be a very long season for the Heat. It will be interesting to see who wins here, because we have two weak teams.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We’re at Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns today, and this isn’t a standard Big Bash venue. This is one of the ground where Cricket Australia like to move the tournament around for other people to get a chance to see a game. We haven’t even had a T20 International at this ground. This is the first Big Bash cricket game here, so we’re totally in the dark conditions wise. I wouldn’t have a strong opinion heading into this game on what type of score we’re likely to see.

RECOMMENDED BET:

It was nice to start the Big Bash with a winner, even if we had to go to the last ball! Although I expect Melbourne Renegades to struggle over the long-term in the tournament, they have a strong squad at the moment. That will change in January as some players move to the other leagues, but for the moment they should have too much firepower for the Heat. I am very surprised the Heat didn’t try to sign more players, and I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see them finish last this season. Their batting and bowling looks pretty weak on paper, and I was surprised to see them trading as favourites when I clicked into the market. The 2.06 on the Renegades is worth a decent bet.

The Edge Says:
Three points win Melbourne Renegades to beat Brisbane Heat at 2.06 with Betdaq Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Because this is the first Big Bash game here, it’s hard to go into the game with a set in-running strategy. It’s hard to know to take on the batting or bowling. Sometimes the best thing to go in-play is nothing, and this game definitely stands out as one of those sit-on-your-hands games trading wise. There will be better in-running opportunities as the tournament goes on.
