THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Thursday’s Big Bash match between Perth Scorchers v Melbourne Stars with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
We have a cracker at the Big Bash on Thursday morning as Perth Scorchers take on Melbourne Stars on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. These sides have had opposite starts to the tournament with Perth Scorchers winning three of their four games and the Melbourne Stars losing three of their four games. Another loss here would see them under immense pressure at the bottom of the table. It was always going to be a difficult season for them losing Glenn Maxwell through injury, but finishing last would be a big shock for a top side.
Perth Scorchers have been their reliable selves really. They are always in the mix for the playoff spots, and their bowling is generally top class. They have a settled bowling attack that usually gets the batters out of trouble. They had a lot of bad news pre-tournament losing batters and have brought in Faf du Plessis for the time being, and so far that has worked.
We had a lot of quick-rematches at this Big Bash, and this is another one. These two met on the 23rd of December with Perth Scorchers comfortably winning by 61 runs. They posted 229/7 in the first inning and kept the Stars down to 168/8. Clearly the Perth batting fired that day, and Melbourne Stars will be hoping for a different story here!
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
This is the third fixture at the Perth Stadium, and the Scorchers will be hoping to make it three from three! So far this season we’ve had reasonably low scores here. Adelaide Strikers only managed 133/7 here on Boxing Day and it took Perth Scorchers 19 overs to chase that – including losing seven wickets along the way. Earlier in the December the Scorchers posted 155/9 and bowling Sydney Sixers out for 117. Perth racked up a massive score against the Stars only a week ago so I wouldn’t just focus on the bowlers here, but it does look like the bowlers have the edge conditions wise.
RECOMMENDED BET:
The Perth Scorchers look a very reliable side at the moment. I say at the moment because when the other T20 leagues start around the world we are likely to see changes in pretty much every Big Bash side. Melbourne Stars have lost a lot of balance in their XI this season without Maxwell – his bowling was good at this level and his batting incredible. With home advantage it’s hard to see past the Scorchers here, and the 1.57 is worth taking. They took the Stars bowlers to the cleaners last week, and if we do get good bowling conditions it’s likely the Scorchers batters will be able to deal with the Stars bowlers better than the Stars batters can deal with the Scorchers bowlers!
The Edge Says:
Three points win Perth Scorchers to beat Melbourne Stars at 1.57 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
So far we’ve had a lot of wickets fall at the Perth Stadium, so I wouldn’t spend too long looking for trades on the batting side here. I wouldn’t have a strong opinion on whether to back or lay the side who bats first. If I won the toss I’d probably bat first and try to make best use of the conditions. I would suggest the Perth bowlers will do much better here than the Stars bowlers, so getting on the Perth bowlers will be my main in-running trade.
