THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Thursday’s Big Bash match between Sydney Thunder v Melbourne Renegades with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

Sydney Thunder v Melbourne Renegades

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We have a huge game at the Big Bash on Thursday morning on BETDAQ Betting Exchange! Is this the biggest fixture in the Big Bash so far? No doubt we’ll have more important games as the fixtures tick down, but when you look at the table you can see this game is massive in the race for the playoffs. Melbourne Renegades currently have a two point advantage over Sydney Thunder but Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes are bang in the mix too. At the moment, it definitely looks like Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers will battle it out for top spot.

As we know in the Big Bash, finishing in the top two spots is a big advantage when we get to the playoffs. For these two sides it will be about getting in that third or fourth spot. After starting the tournament in great form, the Thunder have seemingly hit a wall at just the wrong time. They have lost three games in a row, but they have had to play Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers in that run. The major setback was losing to Hobart Hurricanes. The awkward question also has to be asked – has David Warner improved the side since coming in? That’s a big statement, but he needs to score runs, and score quicker too. 19 runs off 20 balls isn’t good enough opening in T20.

Melbourne Renegades will be delighted to be in the playoff mix. They are usually sitting bottom of the table! They won the massive Melbourne Derby at the weekend and they look to have a settled side. For the first time in a while in the Big Bash, their batting has fired – an interesting, and massive, game awaits.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We move back to Canberra today, with the Big Bash back after playing the first game of the tournament here back on December 13th! That’s a big enough gap so I would trust the conditions to be the same, but the first innings total that day was 122/8 and it was chased down in dramatic fashion by Sydney Thunder off the final ball, nine wickets down too! It’s probably still the most dramatic moment of the tournament! Hopefully we see another close finish, but I really wouldn’t go into this game expecting a big score after that. I’d go into the game with an open mind, and see what conditions are like after three overs.

RECOMMENDED BET:

It’s no surprise to see Sydney Thunder as the slight favourites here. If anything, they will have a slight advantage as they should know conditions better than the Renegades. I’m definitely keep stakes small here as we don’t have much ground data to go off, and we should have a very close game. David Warner hasn’t made the impact he would have wanted for Sydney Thunder and their batting just hasn’t fired recently. They come into this game on a losing run, and I just feel the Renegades batting is in a better place at the moment. They look the value to me at 2.14.

The Edge Says:
One point win Melbourne Renegades to bear Sydney Thunder at 2.14 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

With such a long gap in the season without a game here, I would spend the first three to five overs just seeing what conditions are like. There’s no rush to dive into anything trades here. We had a very low scoring game in the first game here, and we could easily have difficult scoring conditions again. From that point of view, I would be mainly looking for trades on either bowling side. As I said above, the Thunder batting has failed to fire recently and taking them on could provide the biggest in-running edge. I’d be keen to be against David Warner again too.
