THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Tuesday’s Big Bash match between Melbourne Renegades v Adelaide Strikers with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Melbourne Renegades v Adelaide Strikers
MATCH OVERVIEW:
It’s crunch time at the Big Bash this week on BETDAQ Betting Exchange as we tick off the final fixtures of the group stage. Everyone is only thinking of one thing over the next two days and that’s getting into the playoff spots! As things stand Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers will take the top two spots and get into that all important Qualifier. Then we have a bigger than usual amount of teams in the mix for the rest of the playoff spots. Perth Scorchers will be delighted to have home advantage, and they have been so strong in the tournament it’s actually hard to see them past. Indeed, we might even see the loser get to the Final anyway because there’s been a big gap.
We have a huge game on Tuesday morning before we get to the playoffs though. Melbourne Renegades have a great chance to reaching the playoffs after so many poor years of Big Bash cricket. After Brisbane Heat beat Melbourne Stars on Sunday morning, that gave them 13 points which means they start the week in a good spot. Results can go against them still though – for example Hobart Hurricanes might start the final week with 10 points but they play twice. To start the week in fourth, and in the playoff spots with 12 points, must be an usual feeling for the Renegades given they have been the worst team in the Big Bash for the last three seasons!
Adelaide Strikers are also in the playoff mix should all the other results go their way and a big win here, but it’s very unlikely we’ll see them. Still, they have something to play for here which is all you can ask for heading into the final group game. They have finished the group stage poorly however, losing four games in a row. That will give the Renegades a confidence boost here, but they aren’t used to big games like this! An interesting morning awaits.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
This is the fifth game here, and so far this season the scoring has been reasonably strong and reliable. The first inning scores have been 174/6 (chased), 155/6 (chased), 162/8 (chased) and 162/7 (won). Despite the last game seeing the side batting first win, I wouldn’t read too much into that because it was Melbourne Stars who have been very poor this season. They sit bottom of the table, and really missed Glenn Maxwell to balance their side. It’s hard to know what to aim for batting first here so I would definitely favour bowling first if I won the toss.
RECOMMENDED BET:
It’s no surprise that we have a reasonably even market here, but I make Melbourne Renegades good value at 1.95. I’m going to keep stakes small here because I see both sides are fairly unreliable to be honest, but the Adelaide Strikers come into this game on a poor run and the Renegades can take full advantage with home advantage. The Striker did manage to beat the Renegades when they had home advantage in early January, but since then they have suffered four heavy defeats. The Renegades haven’t been on a good run themselves, losing three of their last four, but they have been playing better cricket – even though they lost to the Scorchers it was a very close game and only ten runs between them in a high scoring game. I feel they can edge this.
The Edge Says:
One point win Melbourne Renegades to beat Adelaide Strikers at 1.95 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
As I said above, I wouldn’t class either side as being reliable here so I wouldn’t stay in the market for long on either side. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a market that flip-flops quite a bit here, but given conditions I feel the best trade might be the back the side batting second. Chasing has looked easier than targeting a score batting first, but this is definitely a game for small stakes.
