THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Wednesday’s Big Bash League match between Renegades v Brisbane Heat with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The Big Bash rolls onto Geelong in Victoria on Wednesday as Melbourne Renegades take on the Brisbane Heat on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. The Big Bash is only a week old, but these two sides have already met. We had the same situation on Tuesday with Adelaide Strikers facing the Sydney Thunder very quickly too. Maybe this is something Cricket Australia can look at – it’s nice to have Home/Away fixtures throughout the season, but it’s not ideal in my opinion for sides to meet each other so quickly in a T20 league.
These two sides have been used to siting towards the bottom of the table. As I said last week, Melbourne Renegades have finished bottom of the table three seasons in a row now. The general thought was that they are going to struggle a little again this season, but they did manage to beat Brisbane Heat to start the tournament and they followed that up with another win the weekend against Sydney Thunder. Not a bad start, and perhaps they are possibly get the final playoff spot. Anything bar last is probably an achievement though at this stage!
For Brisbane Heat, they are already sitting towards the bottom of the table. They could have a very difficult season this time around – they will lose players to the other T20 leagues in January and their squad looks very weak. They used nearly 30 players last season looking for the right XI; at this stage you’d have to blame management for their issues. Their recruitment has been poor too.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
This is essentially an out-ground for Cricket Australia. We’ve had this a couple of times already at the Big Bash this season where basically they play a few fixtures outside the normal stadiums to give more fans around Australia a chance to see some cricket. We didn’t have a fixture here last season, so it’s hard to judge what conditions we will have. In the 2019/20 season, we had two games here. The first inning scores were 169/5 and 175/5 – both scores where chased down, but both times the Renegades did bat first and they had very poor bowling that season. I’d go into this game with an open mind on the scoring.
RECOMMENDED BET:
Melbourne Renegades were well on top in the meeting between the sides last week. However, the market has them as clear favourites here at 1.67. I think that’s too big of an adjustment to be honest – I know Brisbane Heat are hardly a reliable side but I feel they are worth a small bet at the odds here. If they get to bowl first we could see a pretty even game, and the 2.32 is worth taking. They will be a much weaker side in January when they lose the likes of Munro but for the time being they have a decent XI. I don’t see much between the sides here, and one good innings on either side will likely be the difference.
The Edge Says:
One point win Brisbane Heat to beat Melbourne Renegades at 2.32 with Betdaq Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Although I am going into this game with an open mind scoring wise, we did have good batting conditions here in the past. I would wait and see what the wicket is playing like, but if it looks good early then we’ll likely see decent scores, and I would favour the chasing side. I know the Renegades have got off to a good start, but these two have been poor recently so I can’t see there being much between them.
