INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Friday’s Chennai Super Kings v Mumbai Indians match in the IPL with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:
The Indian Premier League action returns to Sharjah on Friday as Chennai Super Kings take on Mumbai Indians. So much has happened since CSK beat Mumbai on the first game of the tournament on the 19th of September! Not many cricket fans would have said CSK would be sitting in last after playing ten games. I’m stating the obvious given they are sitting in last position, but it just hasn’t been a good tournament for CSK.
They have had bowling issues, their stars have fired, they lost Suresh Raina because of family reasons at the start of the tournament and that has proven to be a huge blow for their middle order, while MS Dhoni just isn’t the finisher he once was. In truth, after their opening win against Mumbai they never got going. They had one impressive win against Kings XI Punjab when Watson fired and that was it.
Mumbai have had the opposite tournament. They are fighting with Delhi and RCB for top spot, and they have been pretty impressive. They actually haven’t lost a game since losing to CSK. The table say they’ve won six and lost three, but two of those losses have actually come in Super Overs, so they’ve only been beaten by CSK in 20 overs! CSK fans will hope that is a good sign for today, but the reality is Mumbai are a much better side.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
The average score batting first at Sharjah after four games was 219! However, conditions have changed dramatically since. The wicket definitely offers more for the bowlers now, as it looks slower and lower. Since the opening four games the first inning scores have been: 184/8 (won by 46 runs), 194/2 (won by 82 runs), 171/6 (chased) and 179/4 (chased). AB de Villiers put on a masterclass to get RCB to 194/2, but it’s actually hard to call a par score here given the last two chases. Really and truly you need to keep wickets in hand here until the final eight to five overs, because the boundaries are so small any score is achievable. We might not see 200 again here because of the wicket, but it still looks like you need 185+ batting first. Thankfully the weather is set fair.
RECOMMENDED BET:
CSK have let a lot of their fans down this season, and this week Dwayne Bravo was ruled out in a further blow to their bowling line-up. Mumbai are 1.67, which is probably the shortest price I’ve seen to date in the IPL this season – but I can’t see past Mumbai here. CSK just haven’t got the bowling needed for this venue in my opinion, and I can fully understand why Mumbai are 1.67. CSK have batted too slowly too, and Mumbai have a nice bowling line-up. Everything points to Mumbai here.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
There’s going to be a lot going on in-play on BETDAQ betting exchange, as always at Sharjah! Even though the scores have come down and the wicket is getting slower, we still have pretty good batting conditions. OK, it’s not the dream wicket where 220+ is achievable but it’s still good for batting. I would be all over Mumbai if they batted first here. However, they have started slowly losing an early wicket or two and it has been their middle order that has powered them home. They could really set a high total if they can keep wickets in hand for their lower order hitters.
The CSK bowling looks like it’s there for the taking, and I wouldn’t be keen getting on them while bowling. Their lower order has batted too slow, and I’d be happy to be against MS Dhoni again given how much he moves the market. He isn’t what he once was, and the market hasn’t caught up yet – maybe because he still has so many worldwide fans! The sweet spot in this game would be getting on Mumbai in the first innings with eight to five overs left if they have wickets in hand; we could see it raining sixes and a massive score!
