THE HUNDRED 💯: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Friday’s The Hundred format game 11 between Southern Brave v Birmingham Phoenix with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Hundred Game 11:
Southern Brave v Birmingham Phoenix
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The Hundred continues on Friday night as Southern Brave take on Birmingham Phoenix at the Ageas Bowl. We have had some weather issues this week, but hopefully we have a good weekend as we have plenty of action but there are showers forecast. This is a massive game for Southern Brave as they sit bottom of the table with two losses from two games. I know it’s very early days, but with these franchise leagues the players only there for the money lose interest very quickly so a win is badly needed here.
Birmingham Phoenix are in mid-table with one win and one loss, they started nicely but ended up all out for 87 in their second game at Old Trafford. That was a raging Bunsen however, with the ball turning square so we can forgive them for that. You have to be worried about Southern Brave who have been comfortably beaten in their two games. Their batting is poor, and poor on paper too – they really need Quinton de Kock to fire otherwise it’s hard to see them winning a game with the bat.
I think we’re pretty used to the new format now, however we still have pretty close markets on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. I don’t agree with the odds here as I would have Birmingham Phoenix clear favourites based on what we have saw so far.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
As I said above, we have showers forecast for Southampton on Friday so plenty of radar watching is needed, before the game and during it too. With a shorter format, even if it’s just 20 balls less than T20, the toss could be massive with the weather advantage. That’s definitely an angle to play. This will be the first game at this ground, so it’s hard to know what type of score to expect from the team batting first. We have actually had such a difference in conditions around the UK too it’s still hard to know what score teams should be aiming for in general.
RECOMMENDED BET:
I’m confident on Birmingham Phoenix here. They have a much better squad compared to Southern Brave and they can give Southern Brave their third loss in a row. To be fair, Birmingham Phoenix haven’t got a hugely exciting batting line-up themselves, but it is better than Southern Brave who are heavily relying on Quinton de Kock. James Vince bats too slow for this format in my view, and Birmingham Phoenix can take full advantage. Hopefully Moeen Ali can be the star of the show.
The Edge Says:
Two points win Birmingham Phoenix to beat Southern Brave at 1.98 with BETDAQ Betting Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
As this is the first game here, it’s hard to know what kind of conditions we can expect. It’s been very dry in the UK over recent weeks, but the weather has broken now so I wouldn’t expect a very dry pitch. There will be showers too, so we might have a slightly damp outfield as well. Keeping an eye on the radar will definitely be a good trading strategy. As for the players, I would be very keen to get against the Southern Brave batting once Quinton de Kock gets out – that will be my main in-running strategy here until we see what conditions are like.
