T20 FRIDAY: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews the 2nd T20 match between INDIA v NEW ZEALAND with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The T20 series moves to Ranchi on Friday as India aim to seal the series against New Zealand. Although the 1st T20 was pretty much one way traffic for India on BETDAQ Betting Exchange, there was a flurry of late wickets to make things interesting. To be honest, India had the game won and put themselves under unnecessary pressure. With a lot of the stars rested for this series, perhaps we’re going to see dramatic swings in-running like we had. India had the game won, and almost threw it away.

New Zealand selected a very strong bowling line-up, and I have to say I was a little surprised by that. I felt we would see a lot of their star bowlers rested before the Test series. As always in Indian conditions, the seamers will find it tough in the heat of the day trying to bowl at pace. I know the spinners are always busy, but I would have rested Tim Southee and Trent Boult – perhaps they wanted to play and are feeling fresh. It’s only four overs per game in a T20!

Rohit Sharma got off to a winning start as captain and hit a nice 48 too. India’s middle order looked pretty weak, and collapsed under pressure. It was a good job Pant was there at the end, and it will be interesting to see can New Zealand take advantage of that weaker than usual middle order.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

It had been a while since we saw cricket in India with the Covid19 outbreak stopping the IPL mid-way through the competition. It was a long time since we saw cricket at Jaipur before the 1st T20 with the IPL focused on selected grounds, and it’s even longer since we saw cricket in Ranchi. We have had IPL games here and also International games, but to be honest it’s been so long I don’t think the average scores come into it. Batting can be tricky here, but again it’s been so long I would go into the game with a totally open mind when it comes to conditions. Thankfully we have no weather worries.

RECOMMENDED BET:

It was nice to land our bet on India in the 1st T20, and although there was a wobble at the end of the chase, they pretty much bossed 90% of the game. The New Zealand batting looks a little light in the middle and they are relying on a fast start from Guptill at the top of the order. As I said above, batting can be tricky here but I’m going into the game with an open mind on conditions. I do feel India will have the slight edge again here, and because I find it hard to know what conditions to expect I’m happy to keep stakes small again. India are a very powerful team at home, and they will be tough to beat.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

With it being hard to know what conditions to expect, I wouldn’t have a set plan for in-running here before seeing the wicket. This is a game for watching the first three overs and then trying to formulate a plan as the game goes. That’s definitely tougher than having a set plan for in-running trading before the game, so keep stakes low. Having watched the 1st T20, I’d be keen to get against both lower-to-middle orders as they look pretty weak. Let’s see what conditions are like first though – but I don’t see many runs coming from six downwards in the batting line-ups.
