FRIDAY IPL: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Friday’s double header – IPL Game 55 Sunrisers Hyderabad v Mumbai Indians and IPL Game 56 Royal Challengers Bangalore v Delhi Capitals both with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
IPL Game 55 Sunrisers Hyderabad v Mumbai Indians
MATCH OVERVIEW:
It’s the final day of the Group stages of the Indian Premier League today and we have two excellent games on BETDAQ Betting Exchange ! I can understand the thinking behind putting both games on at the same time, but given the situation I’m sure they could have moved one to 11am and we could have a whole day of cricket. Having two games at the same time is a little unusual for cricket too; usually teams do know exactly what they need to do as the schedule usually doesn’t have games at the same time. Anyway, we start with Sunrisers Hyderabad taking on Mumbai Indians at Abu Dhabi.
I actually find the two games at the same time situation more bizarre because technically the Playoff spot is between Mumbai and KKR who played yesterday! Mumbai Indians threw the race for the Playoffs wide open when hammering Rajasthan Royals earlier in the weekend. They chased down the target within ten overs meaning there was a huge swing in their net run rate, and but then KKR stormed back with a 86 runs win over Rajasthan Royals yesterday meaning Mumbai Indians need an even greatest escape than in 2014. I know we see some amazing scenes in sport through the years, but this task seems too big. That being said, when you need a big win the best team to play is the team bottom of the table!
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
We’re back in Abu Dhabi and it’s very difficult to know what to expect here. This will be the last game before the T20 World Cup here as we have the Playoffs at Sharjah and Dubai. In the last two games here, we saw 141/7 failed to be chased successfully and 189/4 chased down with 15 balls to spare! The true par score is likely to be in-between that but we did have a heavy dew when 189/4 was chased and to be honest, RCB should have chased down hat 141/7 easily. That being said, it did look tricky for batting at times in that chase – we’ll just have to wait and see what the wicket is like here!
RECOMMENDED BET:
Mumbai have nothing to lose by going for a monster win, so they’re going to go for it. Why not? It doesn’t achieve anything to just win the game, they literally need to “go big or go home!” I feel those tactics will likely bring the teams closer together however and possibly bring Sunrisers Hyderabad into the game. Mumbai will have to be reckless at stages of the game, and I’m happy to have a small investment on Sunrisers Hyderabad at 2.68. This is definitely a game for small stakes.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
This is definitely a game to trade very carefully and with small stakes in-play. As I said, Mumbai have to go for it so they can going to have to play reckless cricket. That will likely see some wild swings in-play and while it’s great to be on the right end of those, it’s horrible when it goes against you. Mumbai could trade very short and lose too given they will likely be trying to win in a certain amount of overs – you could see them bowled out a lot earlier than usual. For example, they could be chasing 140 but need it in a certain amount of overs – they would easily win if they batted 20 but that won’t be their target and wickets are likely to fall with chances being taken. As they say, anything can happen!
IPL Game 56 Royal Challengers Bangalore v Delhi Capitals
MATCH OVERVIEW:
We have a cracking fixture to finish the Group stage as Royal Challengers Bangalore take on Delhi Capitals in Dubai. What else can you say apart from the fact that Royal Challengers Bangalore threw away their chance of a top two spot on Wednesday with a narrow defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad in Abu Dhabi. They were chasing 141/7 against the side bottom of the table and came up four runs short. Prior to that game, they were two points behind Chennai Super Kings in second place with a game in hand. Given the difference in net run rate it looked like RCB’s chances of a top two finish were gone. Then, we had a huge shock on Thursday. CSK lost to Punjab Kings in 13 overs with a wonderful knock from KL Rahul.
So, that leaves RCB with a chance to finish top two with a win here. They will need a big win, and that will be tricky against a top side like Delhi Capitals, but at least they still have a chance. To be honest, RCB only have themselves to blame for not beating Sunrisers Hyderabad, and there really is a huge difference between top two and third and fourth. Delhi have been fantastic in this IPL, and they are really suited to conditions too. This should actually be a very exciting game – RCB need to win big and they have the played to do it with Maxwell and de Villiers; but Delhi are the classist side in the competition.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
On Thursday it was like the two sides were batting on different wickets here. CSK could only manage 134/6 batting first and Punjab Kings scored 139/4 in 13 overs. CSK have finished the tournament pretty badly and perhaps that is what happened again on Thursday. Batting has been good in general here, but over the last few days we have saw some low scores here. It’s hard to know what wicket we get here given we also have the Playoffs here – my gut would suggest a used wicket and tough to bat. I feel it might be an edge to bowl first and let the team batting first try decide what a good score is. You have the chance they collapse and also the chance the wicket is better than expected and they leave a few runs out there to post an under par total.
RECOMMENDED BET:
I feel like Royal Challengers Bangalore are very much a “need to win” price here. They look too short at 1.81. I know Maxwell is in superb form at the moment and it also looks like AB de Villiers is coming into form at just the right time too, but Delhi are top of the table for a reason and they have been excellent right throughout the tournament. I can’t see why RCB are so short here – I could understand if the market had the game 50/50 but I’d still make Delhi good value then and 2.16 here they look massive. I know it’s a tricky situation with RCB needing a massive win, but I can’t resist a max bet on Delhi at the odds.

Five points win Delhi Capitals to beat Royal Challengers Bangalore at 2.16 with BETDAQ Betting Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
As I said above, the side batting first might be at a slight disadvantage here and I wouldn’t put anyone off opening a trade on the side who bowls first. That being said, I can’t get over the odds here – for me RCB are massively too short and it’s going to be hard to target many trades when the market starts that far off fair value in my opinion. With RCB needing to win big, it might be swimming against the tide to trade on Delhi so I will just stick to an outright bet at a cracking price.
