THE EDGE: The Edge previews the IPL clash between Lucknow Super Giants v Mumbai Indians with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Lucknow Super Giants v Mumbai Indians
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The IPL continues on BETDAQ Betting Exchange as Lucknow Super Giants host Mumbai Indians on Friday. I said this exact statement before the game on Thursday between Kolkata Knight Riders v Sunrisers Hyderabad but this is a big game for both sides even this early in the tournament. The two sides have the same record as KKR and Sunrisers Hyderabad too – only one win from three games is a disappointing return, and you could easily see the playoffs slipping away from the loser here. The way things worked out, six teams have only won once from their opening three games, so someone has to jump up from that group and try catch the others.
Mumbai Indians are under the most pressure; they are the biggest franchise and they’ve been disappointing in recent years – finishing last twice! It looked like a grim start when they lost back-to-back games, but they hammered KKR then. Lucknow Super Giants were hammered too in their last game; losing by eight wickets with 22 balls remaining – you can only blame the bowlers when you score 171/7 and lose that quickly. The Lucknow squad looks weak this season outside Mitchell Marsh, Pooran, Pany and Miller – they basically need to carry the rest of the team in my opinion.
Those four have the talent to do that, but in the IPL when every team has stars, they’re going to struggle to always fire. Their bowling is obviously a worry – but you could apply similar thoughts to Mumbai because their squad is a lot weaker than it used to be. This is an interesting game!
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
This will be the second game at Lucknow, and judging by the first game here it looks like you’re going to see a very big score batting first. 171/7 was chased down with 22 balls to spare. I think the winning captain at the toss will definitely bowl, and you wouldn’t be surprised to see 200 chased down here. Neither side are strong in the bowling department either – although Mumbai knocked over KKR for very little this week. I’d be surprised if we had a low scoring game here.
RECOMMENDED BET:
I have my worries with both sides here, and I feel the market is too heavily on Mumbai Indians. I’m definitely keep stakes small here because obviously you can quite easily pick holes in both sides, but the value call is 2.4 on Lucknow Super Giants. I’m hoping they will have learned from conditions in their opening game here; they can attack this Mumbai bowling line-up, and hopefully one (if not two) of the main four batters for Lucknow come off. I’d have the sides closer together in the betting.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
After watching the opening game here, you really want to focus on finding trades on the batting side in both innings. As I said above, it really wouldn’t be a surprise to see 200+ chased down here. Lucknow didn’t bat too well in the opening innings here, but hopefully they will have learned to go a little harder if they bat first again. Both sides have reasonably weak bowling too; so I expect the batters to dominate here.
