THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Friday’s IPL clash between Kolkata Knight Riders v Sunrisers Hyderabad with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The IPL continues on BETDAQ Betting Exchange with Kolkata Knight Riders hosting Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday afternoon. KKR took all the headlines at the weekend with a wonderful win over Gujarat Titans. Rinku Singh hit five sixes off the last five balls to successfully chase down 29 in the final over, and 204/4. That was a win from nowhere for KKR – a compete bonus win and gives them an excellent start to the tournament with two wins from three games.

It looked like it was going to be a very long season for Sunrisers Hyderabad in their opening two games with two very heavy defeats against Rajasthan Royals and then Lucknow Super Giants but they managed a win at the weekend to get off the board. Their bowlers finally came to the party managing to keep Punjab down to 143/9. It was unlucky for Shikhar Dhawan who finished 99 not out for Punjab as he couldn’t find a partner the whole innings – the next highest score was 22 and after that 5! It was nice for Hyderabad to get a win under their belt, but the squad looks pretty weak by IPL standards and they will struggle in my opinion.

KKR will come into the game as favourite, and you can’t blame the market here given their batting is on fire. Hyderabad are saying they have a hugely talented young squad, but management don’t know their best XI. We had dressing room trouble with management and David Warner too – I feel we’ll likely have issues again with their XI! KKR are firing with the bat, even without Andre Russell scoring.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

Eden Gardens is one of the great cricket stadiums around the world. It looks fantastic on TV, but fans at the ground haven’t been happy with the facilities in a while there. The BCCI have earmarked it for an update before India host the World Cup; fans say it’s badly needed. On the field, scoring has been good over recent years. Despite such a massive stadium, the playing ground is actually quite small and we can see plenty of sixes here. KKR put up 204/7 batting first in the opening game here, but RCB only managed 123 all out in reply. Don’t get too carried away, but I’m going into this game expecting runs.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I’m really not a fan of the Sunrisers Hyderabad and I’m happy to be against them again. We landed a nice bet on Lucknow Super Giants to beat them and while I won’t be going crazy with the stakes we can land a bet on KKR here. As you’d expect, KKR are the favourites but they still offer some nice value at around 1.87. Their batting is really in a good place coming into this game, and they will have decent batting conditions too. It’s a shame Andre Russell isn’t firing, but at the moment they don’t even need him. Hyderabad have a number of issues with their team selection and that will cause problems again.

The Edge Says:
Two points win Kolkata Knight Riders to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad at 1.87 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

As I said above, scoring has been good at Eden Gardens for a number of years now. Obviously we had the big break in IPL cricket in India with Covid19, but with a score of 200+ in the first game I’m expecting good batting conditions here. RCB didn’t bat as well as KKR here in the second innings, but usually this isn’t a bad place to chase with the short boundaries and possible dew. I feel the best angle in-running here will be supporting the KKR batting against the Hyderabad bowling – the Hyderabad batters can go OK too, but I’m not as confident in that trade.
