THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Friday’s IPL clash between Punjab Kings v Rajasthan Royals with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

Punjab Kings v Rajasthan Royals

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We’re really getting into the business end of the IPL 2023 season on BETDAQ Betting Exchange now! Only five games remain, and we have a wide open race for the playoff places. Gujarat Titans have once again been the top side in the IPL this season, and they will top the table again. They will be very tough to beat in the playoffs, especially because they have the experience of winning last season. After Gujarat sitting at the top of the table, it’s pretty much wide open – CSK and Lucknow Super Giants are definitely in the box seat with 15 points because there’s so many sides on 12 points heading into the final games, and Mumbai do have things in their own hands but there’s plenty of room for drama.

At the IPL, there’s always drama! Punjab Kings also had things in their own hands heading into their game with Delhi Capitals on Wednesday. They conceded 213 runs and failed to chase it down. That left them on 12 points, and they need a huge win here and other results to go their way. Even then it’s unlikely, but they would have been in an excellent position had they beaten Delhi; who sit bottom of the table. Rajasthan Royals come into this game in the same position on 12 points, they have a better net run rate though; despite a huge loss against RCB last weekend. Losing by 112 runs is always going to hammer your net run rate!

We should have an excellent game of cricket here though. It’s a must win game for both sides to even have a chance, even then it’s not in their own hands. We could easily see some crazy cricket because both sides not just need to win, but they need massive wins. We have some fantastic hitters, and they be told to go from ball one too so we’re in for some good viewing!

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

Punjab Kings had been playing their home games in Mohail, but they played Delhi Capitals at Dharamsala on Wednesday and we’re back again on Friday. This ground was in the headlines earlier in the year when the BCCI had to move the 3rd Test between India and Australia away from here because of issues with the ground. It was a harsh winter, and the grass growth suffered. I didn’t know what to expect going into the game on Wednesday, but we got runs! Delhi Capitals posted 213/2 and Punjab were favourites to chase it down at the innings break! They came close to chasing it, but came up short at 198/8. We should have a pretty high scoring game here.

RECOMMENDED BET:

Both sides come into this game off the back of disappointing results. Rajasthan had a massive collapse against RCB; all out for 59! Punjab at least went close against Delhi, but their bowling let them down in the first innings. It’s hard to see anything other than a very close game here, and it won’t take much to flip-flop the market either. Having experienced conditions this week, I would lean towards Punjab at 2.04. I just have this as a 50/50 game and that offers marginal value – I am happy to keep stakes small however as there isn’t a huge difference in the odds here. Rajasthan started the IPL on fire this season, but they do seem to have run out of steam. If Punjab can get Buttler early, that goes a long way to winning the game.

The Edge Says:
One point win Punjab Kings to beat Rajasthan Royals at 2.04 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

While we only have one game to go off here from Wednesday, it was a run-fest. I would go into this game expecting runs, but don’t go in all guns blazing – confirm conditions are the same. With this in mind, you really don’t want to stay on either bowling side for long. It looked like Punjab could have chased down 200 on Wednesday, so really the side batting first has to be aiming for 210+ again. Perhaps it’s an angle to take on the Rajasthan middle order, but again if conditions are good you don’t want to be on either bowling side. The market was expecting a 200+ run chase on Wednesday, so do keep that in mind trading the first innings.
