THE EDGE: The Edge previews Sunday’s IPL clash between Chennai Super Kings v Sunrisers Hyderabad with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Chennai Super Kings v Sunrisers Hyderabad
MATCH OVERVIEW:
It’s a hectic weekend on Betdaq Betting Exchange with two IPL double headers, and we finish the weekend with a massive game in the race for the playoffs! Chennai Super Kings host Sunrisers Hyderabad, and with both sides losing this week this has turned into a huge game. Rajasthan Royals have a little cushion at the top of the table, but then it’s wide open with Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants both in the mix along with these two sides. Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered a big blow on Thursday when losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru; they had home advantage and RCB have been bottom of the table for nearly the whole IPL.
The batters just failed to fire chasing a 200+ score, but there are no excuses given how poor the RCB bowling has been this tournament. CSK put in back-to-back losses against Lucknow, both times they batted first and scored a pretty good score but the bowlers couldn’t do the job. Whatever about not defending 176/6 – they couldn’t defend 210/4 at home but obviously the Stoinis knock was just incredible. That bowling performance was surprising even allowing for the power hitting; usually their bowling is superb in their own conditions and they have no excuses with 200+ runs on the board to defend, Lucknow needed 14 an over at one point! Those event leave us here; Sunrisers Hyderabad have a little more cushion with ten points.
CSK are definitely under more pressure with four wins and four losses. There’s a chance with a loss here that the reigning Champions won’t even make it to the playoffs to defend their title. That would be a big surprise; with home advantage I would say this is almost a must win game for CSK.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
Scores have been pretty high by Chennai standards this season. The last game was very high scoring; obviously Stoinis just had an incredible innings – 124 off 63 balls to chase is just remarkable here. Although you expect scores to lower as the tournament goes on here, in general we do see a few 200+ scores and generally they are in the first innings – to chase 200+ here is pretty incredible but obviously it was a once in a lifetime type of innings! Nevertheless, I would go into this game with a pretty open mind; the first inning scores have been 173/6 (chased), 206/6 (won), 137/9 (chased) and 210/4 (chased).
RECOMMENDED BET:
It’s interesting to see CSK such heavy favourites. I know the Sunrisers have had their issues bowling, but the wheels also came off CSK the other day too. I make this a very even game, and from a value point of view I’m happy with a small bet on the Sunrisers at 2.14 or bigger. The main worry is their bowling, but I would argue that they have been superb with the bat thus far – obviously they need to bounce back from the RCB loss but they have a very talented squad and they can make this one closer than the odds suggest.
The Edge Says:
One point win Sunrisers Hyderabad to beat Chennai Super Kings at 2.14 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
We saw an incredible innings from Stoinis here for Lucknow, but as I said that was once in a lifetime stuff never mind once in an IPL! To do it chasing against CSK made it all the more impressive. I would still favour batting first here, and I would still suggest to be a little worried about batting conditions despite the high scores. We can get a heavy dew here, but usually this wicket spins as the tournament goes on. Quite possibly the best angle would be backing CSK if they bat first because the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling has been their weak point – definitely give yourself some time to see what the wicket is like here though!
