Mumbai Indians v Royal Challengers Bengaluru

MATCH OVERVIEW:

Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru clash on Thursday in a massive IPL clash on Betdaq Betting Exchange! These are two of the most popular IPL franchises outside of Chennai Super Kings and MS Dhoni, but both have started the season poorly and desperately need a win here. The RCB brand is absolutely massive, but they’ve always come up short – they have always tended to focus on star batters but the bowling department has been left wanting. I would suggest given the start to this year’s IPL from both sides, that this game is basically a knockout game. The loser won’t be going to the playoffs.

The stakes couldn’t be higher so, it’s quite early in the tournament to have such a dramatic game but RCB have only one win from five games while Mumbai only have one win from four games. Obviously Mumbai have a little bit more room for error, but both sides are already miles behind. Franchise cricket has shown time and time again that it’s better to have strong bowling than batting – especially when we see very flat wickets. We had record scores so far this IPL; having strong bowling is making the difference when everyone can play a big knock with the bat.

Obviously RCB play their home games at the highest scoring IPL venue, but the game there this season haven’t even been that high scoring. The Wankhede is also known for seeing massive runs in the IPL, and while everyone might say this is a straight shootout for the batters, it’s highly likely that the bowlers will decide the game even if we see 200+ scored in both innings. A fascinating game awaits. Both sides have clearly had their issues!

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This is the third game here, and talk about a range of scores so far. We saw Mumbai held to 125/9 in the opening game here and then they scored 234/5 in the second game! It’s not often we see a low scoring game here to be honest; I know when the wicket gets tired we can see a lot of spin but usually for IPL cricket it’s a high scoring venue. We might not see a score as high as 234 but I would expect good scoring conditions and a high scoring game in general. As I said above, both sets of bowlers have been poor so I’d expect the batters to win the day. Mumbai have already conceded a score of 277/3 this season!

RECOMMENDED BET:

The reality we have here is that neither side fills you with confidence. The market has a big favourite however; Mumbai Indians are trading 1.73 which is a pretty big favourite by IPL standards where we usually have a reasonably even market. You don’t need me to tell you that both sides are loaded with batting talent; the real issue is the bowling. The game will be won by whomever bowls best, and it’s hard to trust either side in that area. I’m going to keep stakes small, but the RCB bowling has been very poor so I expect Mumbai to win here.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Both sides have suffered with their bowling, so it seems a no brainer to support both batting line-ups here. We could see a blowout low score like the first game, but are the bowlers good enough to deliver that? I would be more surprised if we didn’t see a 200 plays 200 game to be honest. I would be happy to back the side batting first, and then consider trading at the innings break depending on the score. When Mumbai posted 234/5 here they still conceded over 200 in the chase, so we’ll have plenty of opportunity to support both batting units.
