THE EDGE: The Edge previews Wednesday’s IPL clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad v Mumbai Indians with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Sunrisers Hyderabad v Mumbai Indians
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The IPL hits Hyderabad on Wednesday with Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians looking for their opening win of the tournament! While both sides lost over the opening weekend, they both traded long odds on at some stage on Betdaq Betting Exchange and it goes without saying they were both gutted with their unsuccessful chases. Hyderabad looked like chasing down the 208/7 set by KKR but they had a horrible last five balls. After a six off the first ball of the final over, they only needed seven runs off five balls. They only managed two runs while losing two wickets from there.
Mumbai will be unhappy with their losses too. They bowled well to keep Gujarat Titans down to 168/6 and they really should have won from where they got themselves to in the middle overs. However, when Rohit Sharma got out it all started to go wrong, they massively slowed down by the 13th and 17th over; the game was lost there. Both sides obviously have areas to improve on – Sunrisers will be hoping for a better bowling display while Mumbai need more from their middle order. Hardik Pandya will have a lot of work to do this season batting with the lower order as well.
This should be an interesting game. Hyderabad have been a very poor side in recent seasons and they have gone through a lot of changes too. They spent a huge amount of money on Pat Cummins and while their local batsmen went very well in the opening game you’d have to worry about the Indian support bowlers for Cummins. Their pace bowling outside of Cummins is very lacking, and that could be the difference.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
This is the first game of the season at Hyderabad, so I would go into the game with a reasonably open mind about scoring conditions. Last season we had a range of scores here, high and low! The first inning scores in order of games played were; 203/5 (won), 143/9 (chased), 192/5 (won), 144/9 (won), 171/9 (won), 182/6 (chased) and 186/5 (chased). Hyderabad only won once here last season, and their bowling was very poor at times. I wouldn’t fully expect a high scoring game here just because we saw the likes of 186 and 182 chased last season.
RECOMMENDED BET:
As you would expect, Mumbai Indians are the favourites at 1.78. I still feel there’s a little value left in that price for a small investment. They are a much stronger side than Hyderabad when you put everything together – I fully respect the fact that Hdyerabad have improved this season but I still feel their pace bowling is very lacking outside of Cummins. I would suggest that Mumbai basically just have to “see him off” and then they can cash in against the others. The Mumbai batting can do much better than their opening game too; they have the hitters and hopefully they learn from losing their opening game by going slow after Sharma got out.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
This is the first game here so I would assess conditions in the opening overs, however more times than not we usually do have good batting conditions here. The odd time we can get a very tricky batting wicket though. I feel the best trade here will be taking on the Hyderabad pace bowlers apart from Cummins – they went around the park in their opening game, they look weak on paper too and they come up against one of the best IPL sides here.
