Brisbane Heat v Sydney Sixers

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The Big Bash gets 2024 off to a bang on Betdaq Betting Exchange! We have a cracking double header to enjoy on New Years Morning – most UK cricket fans will still be sleeping during the first game, so all the focus is on Brisbane Heat against the Sydney Sixers in the second game of the day. This should be a high quality game anyway; these two are two of the top sides in the tournament so far. You could even say that they are both already nailed on for the playoffs; I would be surprised if they weren’t both in the top three along with Perth Scorchers.

Sydney Sixers will be annoyed at the weather gods for not winning the Sydney Derby on Saturday; they were already head of the target required on Duckworth Lewis but we needed another over to have an official game. That was unfortunate, but all three top sides have had a game abandoned for one reason or another. Perth Scorchers were involved in the unsafe wicket towards the start the tournament! Brisbane Heat have got off to an incredible start this time around, and they’ve won all four of their completed games. Their net run rate is very impressive too.

The loss for Sydney Sixers against Melbourne Stars kind of came from nowhere, but they have been very solid outside of that game. Their batting and bowling is all working together; to be honest we’ve got used to this from the Sixers in recent years. The Brisbane Heat batting has really turned up at this tournament though, and their bowlers have been defending easily too.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We’re back at the Gabba, and we have three games to go here as we come towards the end of the season. Brisbane Heat have batted first and won both of their games here; the first inning scores were 214/3 and 172 all out. The wicket has looked good for batting, and the scores at the Gabba were very good last season too. I think you have to bat first if you win the toss and just make best use of the good conditions – put a good score on the board and defend it rather than having all the run rate pressure chasing.

RECOMMENDED BET:

We have an interesting market here. Brisbane Heat are the favourites, but I would personally have Sydney Sixers as the marginal favourites. I know there’s barely anything between the sides in the market, but for me the Sixers are the better side overall. I fully accept the fact that the Brisbane Heat batting is in superb form and they will have good batting conditions here too. However, this Sixers side just does everything well – everyone knows their role and they’re very settled. I would have them favourites, so I’m happy with a small value play.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

We have two really good teams here, and there aren’t many negative areas that you’d want to take on. Both batting line-ups have been in form, and the bowlers pretty good too. From an in-running trading point of view, I feel the best play will be getting on the side who bats first. They can post a good total and move the market in good batting conditions.
