T20 PREVIEW: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Monday’s T20 clash between New Zealand v Australia with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
Another superb T20 series kicks off on Monday morning as New Zealand welcome Australia. We have five T20’s in the tour and they are all at different venues too; given the Covid19 situation in New Zealand we should have almost full houses at the games too which should be fantastic for cricket. We should have some excellent cricket and plenty of drama in-running on BETDAQ Betting Exchange.
Australia won’t be at full strength for this tour, but they have a lot of in-form players from the Big Bash which only finished a short while ago. They have been playing T20 cricket for months, however I must say the captain Aaron Finch was in very poor form for the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash – they finished last in the table and he didn’t do much throughout the tournament – he might come under a bit of pressure if the performances are poor.
I’m looking forward to seeing how this Australia side does though against a rock solid New Zealand side. They look to have an excellent top order, but how they will cope with the New Zealand bowling is another question. You have to admit, the standard of bowling in the Big Bash was a little below average. For New Zealand, they will be hoping Martin Guptill passes his fitness test, and we could possibly see some big market moves ahead of the toss. All in all we should have a cracker!
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
We start the series at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch in what will be only their second T20. They were due to host a T20 between New Zealand and Australia in March but it was cancelled because of Covid19. The only other game here came in November 2019 when England beat New Zealand by seven wickets. New Zealand only managed 153/5 in the first innings and that looked short of par – they lost Guptill early and never really fired. England chased in reasonably easy, and I would suggest the team batting first should be looking for 170, or more hopefully.
RECOMMENDED BET:
It’s not a shock to see the odds so close together for the 1st T20. We should have a very close series and a very close first game – we will get more firm opinions when we see how the teams perform and what players are in form as the series goes on. I’m happy to back New Zealand at 2.02 to start the series as there will be a lot of changes in the Australia squad and they could take time to get going. New Zealand just look rock solid, although I’m happy to keep stakes to a minimum given the injury worries.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Without much ground history to go off here, there isn’t many firm in-running strategies before the off. This will be a game to wait and see how things develop in-play. I don’t favour the team batting or bowling first, so it will be interesting to see what the captain decides to do after winning the toss – I would lean towards bowling. There are a couple of player angles to focus on here; Finch looked in poor form in the Big Bash and while he has the talent to take the market away from you – I would be keen to get against him for low stakes. If he brings his Big Bash form he won’t score many.
I wouldn’t mind getting against Australia when they are bowling too, and their bowling looks like it could go around the park at certain stages. That being said, I want Guptill to be fit and playing if I decided to go that way as he could play very well. It’s not ideal having to pass a fitness test, and as I said above the toss news could see a big market move and that’s definitely a trading angle.
