THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Monday’s IPL clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad v Delhi Capitals with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
A new week of IPL cricket begins on BETDAQ Betting Exchange, with Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capital desperately hoping for something to kickstart a good run. With both sides taking up the bottom two spots on the table, their chances of reaching the playoffs are very slim already. The IPL is a long tournament though, and we aren’t quite yet at the stage where they have to just play for pride. Sunrisers Hyderabad have won two of their four games, while Delhi Capitals finally got their first week last week – they sit bottom of the table after losing their opening five games.
That win for Delhi Capitals came over KKR, who are also close to the bottom of the table but it’s still early days. The biggest issues for Delhi Capitals is their batting – only David Warner and Axar Patel have scored more than 100 runs after six games – quite the stats. Remember they didn’t have their South African bowlers at the start of the tournament and I said not to judge them too harshly until they arrive. I didn’t expect the batting to be the issue at the start of the tournament, but it’s been a major problem.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad have also had issues with their batting. Lots of cricket fans say they have a young and exciting squad, but they lack a star – someone with experience to guide the young players. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was captain at the start of the tournament, purely because he was the best player on paper, but he needed to be focused on his bowling. It seems to be Sunrisers Hyderabad have a management/ownership issue – all the chopping and changing, plus remember all the drama with David Warner when he was captain. Nevertheless, an interesting game awaits.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
This is the fourth game at Hyderabad, and so far we’ve had decent batting conditions. The first inning scores have been 203/5 (won), 143/9 (chased) and 192/5 (won). Obviously Punjab Kings batting failed here, but neither side have had a good batting tournament so I wouldn’t just expect a score of 190+! The two high scores were sides playing against Sunrisers after all. Obviously it’s very hot in India at the moment, and I would expect this wicket to break up as the tournament goes on. Of course, dew could be a big factor as well – it’s actually a hard decision what to do here at the toss for the winning captain.
RECOMMENDED BET:
This is definitely a game for low stakes. There’s a long list of negatives for both sides to be honest, and there aren’t many positives! Neither side has very strong bowling, and their batting has been very poor too. Delhi Capitals finally broke their losing run last time out, and that could change things for them. I know that they are under-performing at the moment, and for that reason I am keeping stakes small, but on paper they have the much better squad in my opinion. I would have them as the marginal favourites, and they are worth backing at 2.1. If anything, we should have a 50/50 market here so the 2.1 offers some value.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Neither side has been great with the bat here, so I wouldn’t be rushing into any positions in-running. We’ve had two high scores from the three games, but both times it was sides facing the Sunrisers Hyderabad. I feel the best in-running strategy here is to sit out the first innings, see what score is recorded and then make a decision at the inning break on the chasing side based on how much dew has fallen. You wouldn’t want to have a big position on either side while batting, but good batting conditions or poor bowling conditions might decide the game.
