THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Monday’s 2nd T20 between WEST INDIES v INDIA with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

India are looking to keep their 100% record in their tour of the West Indies on Monday as the sides move to Basseterre for the 2nd T20. I know this has been a big topic in England with such a busy International schedule, but it’s been pretty much the same schedule for this India side. They have five T20’s in this series, which in fairness is probably better than the three Tests between England and South Africa in a T20 World Cup year. At the moment, India are awash with talent in T20 cricket – such is the success of the IPL they are a host of players pushing for a place in the final XI.

It seems to me that they are going to approach T20 World Cup now much like England approached the ODI World Cup when they won it – they are going to keep attacking and blast their way to a big score. With the strength in depth they have in their batting order, it’s hard to argue against this to be honest – in fact it is the obvious play. They blasted their way to 190/6 in the 1st T20 on what was a reasonably tricky wicket. They just totally batted West Indies out of the game, but with the talent India have at the moment that’s what they should be doing.

With the “attack at all costs” approach, you are going to have failures. That is just the way it is. Long-term you just have to accept that and get on with it – it does make things more interesting from a betting point of view on BETDAQ Betting Exchange however. West Indies are used to attacking and going for big sixes too – I wonder will they be able to get a little closer to this Indian side or will it be one way traffic again?

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This will be the first of two T20’s here, before the teams actually move to America to play the final T20’s at Lauderhill. Warner Park in St Kitts hasn’t had much International T20 action over the years, but we do see a lot of the CPL played here. We had get very different conditions in the CPL between day and night games, and then we also get a lot of cricket played in a short time frame. I wouldn’t read too much into those scores, especially because we’re going to be on a fresh wicket here. West Indies’ last T20 here was against Ireland, and they bowled Ireland out for 138 before chasing it in just 11 overs! That was in 2020 though, and prior to that England played twice here in 2019. West Indies got rolled for 71 in the 1st T20 and then England scored 182/6 in the 2nd T20 and rolled West Indies for 45 that time! Fair to say, and the CPL data back this up too, we can get a range of scores here.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I have to say I really like the new Indian style of play, and it will be interesting to see do they continue with the same style here. As highlighted above, we really do get a range of scoring conditions here. This wicket isn’t predictable but I do feel the best way is to attack. India have got themselves into this tricky situations on this tour at times, but they have come out on top in four from four, and while we might see them trade bigger in-play just because they have done so at times on this tour, I feel as an outright bet you can’t look past India here at around 1.47. Their squad is incredibly strong at the moment, and they have a wealth of batting firepower and it’s hard to see them not winning in the end whatever conditions are thrown at them.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

With batting conditions slightly unknown in the sense that we can see a very good or bad wicket here – there tends to be no in-between – I wouldn’t form a set in-running strategy here. I would want to see what conditions are like first, and I would also expect India to perform better than West Indies. If India bat first, I would expect a bigger score etc. I feel the best angle here will be getting on India when they are batting, and if we have a tricky wicket like the 1st T20 and they keep attacking, that could give some nice opportunities to get on them after a wicket has fallen. I feel they’ll blast their way to a big score here.
