CARIBBEAN PREMIER LEAGUE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews the Caribbean Premier League match on Saturday between Barbados Tridents v Trinbago Knight Riders with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:
We’ve reached the half way stage of the Caribbean Premier League now and we have an action packed weekend ahead! We kick it off with Barbados against Trinbago in a massive game for Barbados. Trinbago are clear at the top of the table with five wins from five games, however Barbados are locked on the same amount of points as Guyana and Jamaica so the table is wide open. A win against Trinbago would be massive, however with Trinbago in excellent form I can’t see it happening.
Barbados have looked light on the bowling side of sides and they actually conceding the biggest score of the tournament against Trinbago. They racked up 185/3 with Bravo, Munro and Pollard leading the charge. They won by 19 runs, and nobody has really got close to a score like that given the tricky wickets. Batting conditions should be a little easier given it’s an early game; however we did see very slow scores here on Thursday. Trinbago have done well without Narine too, which is clearly a massive factor and they will be even stronger when he returns.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
If we thought we might get slightly better batting conditions at the Queen’s Park Oval compared to the Brian Lara Stadium, when we were wrong! At the moment it looks like batting is even harder here. Thursday was very low scoring with 110/9 in the first innings in the early game and 112/7 in the late game. Logic would suggest you’d want to bat first given the difficultly but it’s so tough to bat it’s hard to set a good score. Teams seems to be aiming too high and falling short.
You’d have to expect reasonably low scores again today. However I would expect batting to be a little easier in the early game, and with a day break that could give the groundsmen a chance to improve the wicket. I would watch the first three overs before deciding what conditions are like.
RECOMMENDED BET:
I can’t see past this excellent Trinbago side. It was all one way traffic in their last game against Guyana and to be honest when they played Barbados earlier in the tournament it was one way traffic too. They have coped well without Narine which has been good to see and their squad just looks in great form as well as being full of quality.
Barbados have quality in their side too, but Rashid Khan can’t do it all himself. The others bowlers have let them down. They have Cory Anderson who can change a game, but he has struggled on the tricky wickets so far – as have most of the big hitters. Trinbago have the better side and are more suited to conditions. They should be shorter than 1.68. We landed our last three point bet with them, and we can land another one here.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
The strategy once again has to focus on what the pitch will be like to bat on. We saw a low score here in the early game on Thursday while prior to that we have had better batting conditions in the early game. It’s tough to know whether 130 or 150 should be par. Watch the first three overs and you should know what kind of score can be chased. If I had to pick one before the off, I would suggest it’s closer to 150 because Thursday was over one game and we have had the same trends over the whole competition.
The Trinbago middle order really took apart the Barbados bowling attack when the sides met previously in the competition and I can see the same thing happening here. Although batting has got tougher so I doubt Trinbago will reach the same score but that’s where they can get momentum to win the game – that’s probably the only time I’d be happy to look for trades on the batting side. As we have seen, a wicket is never far away on this wicket and it’s easier to trade the bowling side.
