Eliminator: Perth Scorchers v Adelaide Strikers

MATCH OVERVIEW:

It’s Eliminator time at the Big Bash on Saturday as Perth Scorchers take on Adelaide Strikers on Betdaq Betting Exchange. Perth Scorchers will feel a little hard done by to be here, and their route to the final looked a lot easier as they sat in second place with 197/4 at the innings break on Tuesday. It went to the last ball, but the Scorchers suffered their first home defeat of the season at the hands of Sydney Sixers who jumped over them and into second. They have home advantage for this game, but should they win they’ll be away against the loser of Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers.

There’s a big difference between finishing in the top two and not in the Big Bash, but now the Scorchers have to do it the hard way. The Scorchers have an exceptional record in the Big Bash playoffs, they come into the playoffs this season hunting for their third straight Big Bash title. Doing it the hard way won’t faze them – they are the most successful side after all with a total of five wins. Scorchers have won 17 of their last 19 home games which is an unreal record – it is important to note that they would have had home advantage in the Final (if they got there) should they have won against the Sixers, but here we are.

For Adelaide Strikers, they have played solid cricket this season. However, they have been hit massively by a lot of stars going to the Dubai ILT20. They lost Jamie Overton – the joint-highest wicket taker and also Chris Lynn – the third highest run scorer. Brisbane Heat were hard hit too, but Strikers have lost a lot of talent and have a huge task ahead now to win in Perth.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

The weather is usually set fair in Perth – it’s very rare we have rain during the Big Bash. As I said above, Perth Scorchers have an incredible home record here and they are exceptionally tough to beat. Before the Sixers pulled off that incredible chase, the Scorchers were 17 wins from 18 home games! Scoring has been good at the Perth Stadium – the first inning scores have been 172/8 (chased), 162 all out (won), 211/4 (won), 163/6 (won) and 197/4 (chased). Scorchers posted 211/4 against the Strikers, winning by 42 runs. I’d still bat first, even after the successful chase on Tuesday.

RECOMMENDED BET:

The Strikers come into this game without their best bowler and batter. That’s very hard to take, especially because this is the playoff stage and they are moving to another T20 franchise league which is just starting. The reality is in T20 money talks, and that’s just life. With the Scorchers home record and a stronger squad now, even though they also have players missing, it’s hard to see past the home win here. The market has them decent favourites at 1.61, but I still feel there’s a little value in that price. The Strikers look very weak on paper now.

The Edge Says:
Three points win Perth Scorchers to beat Adelaide Strikers at 1.61 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

By the looks of things on Tuesday, this might be a high scoring game. I only say might because the Strikers are missing Chris Lynn who has been a key batsman for them – I would definitely lean towards supporting the Scorchers batting here as the main in-running play. The Strikers are without their best bowler too – the Scorchers posted 200+ against the Strikers earlier in the season, and we could see a similar score if they bat first again.
