SYDNEY SIXERS v SYDNEY THUNDER: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews the Big Bash clash on Saturday with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We have a massive clash in the Big Bash on Saturday as it’s time for the Sydney Derby! With all cricket bets 0% Commission on BETDAQ Betting Exchange, hopefully it’s going to be as close as it looks on paper and an excellent game for trading. While all eyes have been on The Ashes in Australia this summer, the Big Bash has been having a very tough time. They desperately need some good momentum to finish the season with some cracking games and also high quality games.

They’ve really suffered with Covid19 and the larger outbreaks Australia haven’t been able to deal with this summer. The BBL have introduced a new “player pool” where clubs that get players to fill the void for those missing out through Covid19. This is a fascinating situation really, because the players from the pool can play for any club. That’s pretty remarkable. The tournament has moved to a Melbourne hub which obviously helps as the players were traveling all over the country, but all eight teams have been effected by Covid19 at some point.

There’s been so much change this season that Sydney Sixers aren’t even in the top two in the table! They might be going for three titles in a row and they will still make the Playoffs, but if they lose this game they will likely miss out on a top two finish. Sydney Thunder lost their last fixture to Hobart Hurricanes, but they went on an excellent run prior to that. The Sixers have a game in hand on the Thunder, but they lost their two games to Perth Scorchers very recently leaving them on the back foot – Perth Scorchers look very strong at the moment. This is a massive game though in the race for a top two finish.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

The Big Bash returns to the SCG here after hosting the 4th Test match in the Ashes. England managed a draw in that game, but we did lose some time to weather and to be honest I wouldn’t read too much into the Test conditions compared to this game. We saw Sydney Thunder score 172/7 here in January 2nd, and while Brisbane Heat were bowled out for 105 here just before the New Year I wouldn’t pay much attention to that. They have been poor this season. In general, scoring has looked good here and batting first has provided an edge. We had a fair bit of cricket here at the start of the tournament, with two scores landing on 213.

RECOMMENDED BET:

It’s hard to see anything other than a close game here. Obviously both sides have been through a lot this season with Covid19, and you feel that the Sixers have been knocked a little by that. They might not have any “stars” in their best XI, but they were an excellent team and when they lost a few players they took a hit. Perth looked much better than them twice, however Perth look very strong. Although their winning run came to an end in their last game, I feel this is a good time for the Thunder. They are playing great cricket at the moment and this is a good time to ride their momentum against a Sixers side struggling a tiny bit. We have two cracking sides here and there shouldn’t be much in it, but it’s Thunder for me.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Given all the changes with Covid19, and there’s so much going on in that regard in the Big Bash in general at the moment – obviously targeting the teams news at the toss is an important element of trading at the moment. After that, I would be keen to support the side batting first here as batting first looks to provide a slight edge here. We have saw some very high scores posted batting first and chasing hasn’t looked as easy. In a close game, that might just be the difference. Both sides are solid with the bat, and you’d fancy a trade on either if they batted first.
