THE EDGE: The Edge previews the BBL match between Sydney Thunder v Sydney Sixers with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Sydney Thunder v Sydney Sixers
MATCH OVERVIEW:
It’s Sydney Derby time at the Big Bash on Betdaq Betting Exchange this Saturday! This is always a cracking game, but both sides have started the tournament with mixed fortunes. Sydney Sixers have been superb over the last number of years, and they have started with three wins from four games; they already looked nailed on for the playoff to be honest. It hasn’t been the same story for Sydney Thunder; they have lost three of their four games and sit towards the bottom of the table. It doesn’t take much to jump up the table at this stage though, so there’s lots to play for here.
The Thunder also have a little drama with David Warner. He’s currently playing Test cricket with Australia which was already known obviously, but then he also has a deal to play the ILT20. We knew the new Dubai and South African tournaments would pull players away from the Big Bash. He’s definitely missing the West Indies white ball tour, but it would be a little embarrassing if a massive Aussie star missed Big Bash games to play in the Dubai franchise league instead.
The Sixers have a strong core group, and that has led them to their recent success too. The Big Bash has really suffered with a lack of star players over the last few years, but interest with the Aussie public seems to be back. Hopefully we have another cracker here!
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
This is the fourth and final fixture at the SCG this season. Scoring has been good here so far, and the batters can’t have any complaints about the wicket. The three first inning scores here have been; 175/6 (won), 155/7 (won) and 154/8 (chased). The 155/7 only won by one run, so you’d have to feel the side batting first should be aiming for 165 to have a decent score to defend. I would lean towards batting first; we have good batting conditions here and you can make the most of it batting first.
RECOMMENDED BET:
It’s no surprise that Sydney Sixers are the favourites here, and I feel they still offer value at 1.7. The Thunder have a decent batting line-up, especially the top order but their bowling has really let them down this season. They posted 200/7 and couldn’t defend that against Adelaide Strikers, they conceded another reasonably big score against Brisbane Heat too. I just feel that there’s always a ball or an over to release the pressure, and against a top side like the Sixers you just cannot do that. The Sixers have much better bowling, and that will be the difference.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
I don’t see there being an obvious edge to batting or bowling first here; conditions have actually been pretty consistent. I would bat first to make best use of the conditions, but it isn’t an obvious green flag for a trade. I feel the biggest market mover here will be the Sixers bowling against the Thunder – especially against their middle-order. I think that’s where the game will be won.
