THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Saturday’s T20 World Cup clash between England v Sri Lanka with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

It’s crunch time for England in Sydney on Saturday morning as they must win. It’s been a dramatic few weeks on BETDAQ Betting Exchange because we’ve had everything at the T20 World Cup so far – major shocks, teams trading very big odds in-running and winning, weather drama (lots of it!) and not to forget some incredible play on field. England have been involved in some dramatic games, and Ireland beating them thanks to Duckworth Lewis was the shock of the tournament. That’s left them on the backfoot, but thanks to beating New Zealand earlier in the week they are back in the mix.

We were all looking forward to an Australia v England clash with the loser knocked out, unfortunately the weather robbed us of that game, and that meant it was very likely that it would come down to net run rate. Thanks to New Zealand absolutely hammering Australia in the opening game of the tournament, England were always in a better position net run rate wise. Although they come into this game needing to win and under the immense pressure of having to deal with that, they will be fully expected to beat this Sri Lanka side.

Despite Sri Lanka not having the batting talent of England, don’t write off this side. They were wrote off heading into the Asia Cup earlier in the year but beat India and Pakistan on their way to that title. Conditions don’t really suit them in Australia, but it is an edge to bat first here so things could get interesting if Sri Lanka win the toss. A fascinating game awaits.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

As I said above, it definitely looks an advantage to bat first here. Pakistan benefitted from that to beat South Africa and give themselves a chance of the Semi-Finals again on Thursday here, and in general this has been a good scoring ground. I would expect a high scoring first innings, especially if England bat first. Thankfully the weather forecast looks sunny and cloudy at the moment, but it would be unwise to not check the radar – we have had so much rain in Australia lately.

RECOMMENDED BET:

In terms of a winner here and from an outright bet point of view, it’s hard to see past England. They are trading 1.23 however, and I do believe we can see higher odds in-running if Sri Lanka bat first. Indeed, IF Sri Lanka bat first I’d be tempted by a small bet on them at 5.0 or bigger because there is a bias to batting first here and the England bowling is their weak point. The England batting however is superb, and if they bat first I would expect a pretty one sided game. I’m going to keep stakes very small before the off, and only recommend Sri Lanka IF they bat first.

The Edge Says:
One point win Sri Lanka to beat England IF they bat first at 5.0 with Betdaq Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

The games here have been high scoring with two 200 or more scores batting first, so I wouldn’t spend long looking for trades on the bowling side – especially in the first innings. I think if England bat first we’ll see a 1.01 train with a high score. If Sri Lanka bat first that does make the game more interesting – with England being a little poor with the ball this tournament I would be very tempted, for small stakes, to look for a trade on Sri Lanka. I feel that’s where we’ll see the most movement and given batting first has looked an edge here, England chasing might be tricky. Also just to repeat, definitely keep an eye on the radar – we’ve seen how important it is time and time again this tournament and we had a reminder here on Thursday with the rain getting in the way of the South Africa chase.
