THE EDGE: The Edge previews India v England 2nd T20 with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
India v England 2nd T20
MATCH OVERVIEW:
India and England move to Chennai for the 2nd T20 on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. England will be hoping for a much better performance than earlier in the week when they collapsed all out for 132 at Eden Gardens. That venue is usually high scoring, but Jos Buttler got absolutely no support from the other end – he scored 68 out of the 132 runs! India will pat themselves on the back and say job well done, but we know this England batting line-up will put the bowlers under immense pressure at some stage. Hopefully we have a closer game this time around.
England found themselves 17/2 early, then 83/5 after 11.5 overs so the writing was on the wall quite early – especially considering we had so many 200+ scores at the IPL. Chennai will offer a different type of test for England; usually the spinner thrive here, and after the opening batting display is it hard to have confidence on England here. This is the first white ball tour that Brendon McCullum is taking charge of – if we know anything about him, England will swing even harder. The only negative for India in the first game was the captain Yadav didn’t get any runs; he went very quickly and that might be something England can apply pressure to when he comes in – other than that England need a totally different performance.
This series was billed as possible breaking record scores and full of drama. We’ve yet to see either of those; and England need something to build on. It’s hard to win in India, especially when the home side have all the momentum and confidence.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
As I mentioned above, Chennai usually benefits the spinners. We have had some crazy high scores here in the IPL recently though, so I would go into the game with a reasonably open mind on scoring conditions. We can get a heavy dew here too. Because of the stadium renovations, we actually haven’t had an International T20 here since 2018. The first inning scores from the IPL last season were 173/6 (chased), 206/6 (won), 137/9 (chased), 210/4 (chased), 212/3 (won), 162/7 (chased), 141/5 (chased), 175/9 (chased) and 113 all out in the Final. In Chennai, you usually see the ball spinning a lot or 200+ posted with dew.
RECOMMENDED BET:
We’ve had a big shift in the odds here. India were 1.69 heading into the 1st T20 and now they are trading 1.53. Obviously after the opening performance from England, the market is worried what type of batting performance we’re going to see from England. I also think a huge factor here is conditions – Chennai is a venue that will naturally favour this Indian side, and if you were picking out a venue from the T20 series that would suit India the most, this would be it. I’m going to keep stakes small here, but I do like India at this ground to get the job done.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
The first thing to do here is confirm batting conditions – as I said we can get a huge amount of spin here, or a flat wicket with dew we see 200+ being par. The most important trading aspect at Chennai is trying to identify as quickly as possible which type of game we’re going to get! India were always in control of the first game so we didn’t really learn a lot – quite possibly the only thing we learned was Jos Buttler looks in good touch, and England might be worth supporting if someone can stay in with him. At Chennai though, this could be one way traffic for the home side.
